It was a little too simple for Tony's tastes. There was some hardship in what he found himself working on and building lately, sure, but only because of a lack of resources. The work itself was mind-numbingly easy and it gave him too much time to let his mind wander.
There was no helping that. It was what it was, and maybe some day, it wouldn't be. Engineering was like that, he had to remind himself. Starting with the basics and moving on toward the more complex stuff. Nothing else would work right if he didn't spend time on the foundations, no matter how boring it was.
This was just the sort of thing he'd been using JARVIS for for so many years.
But he did like this part, maybe. The silence of the night, Steve across from him, focusing the whole of his attention on Tony. "Yeah, I know," he admitted. "I kept tabs when I could. When it wasn't too obvious."
