Who: Clint Barton and Alpha Peter
What: Adventure is out there!
When: Monday
Where: Through the doors | Viridian City

Peter was still not big on the doors, like he'd told yet another young version of himself, but sometimes you heard about it going some place interesting and he was tempted. It wasn't another convention, one was probably enough - but it was a world that seemed more potential vacation destination than real threat. So when Clint came calling Peter decided he could check it out with him, you didn't let a guy go through the door on his own, that just wasn't on.

His web-shooters on Peter was ready to go, it was a bright sunny day on the other side - the sort you only ever really got like once or twice a year, and it was so green and well Peter was pretty sure that things couldn't be all that bad in a place like this. So it helped him stow away any anxiety he had about venturing through the doors.

"Well this is just something straight off a postcard." He said to Clint as they looked around taking stock of the place. A small city, bigger than theirs but Peter was pretty sure most were. Lots of forest around as well, it was strange, how similar it was - but like the colors had been turned up, making it all just a little brighter, a little greener.

"So what do you think? Check out the forest first? Or the City?" He asked Clint, either option worked for him as long as they weren't walking headfirst into some kind of trap or something.

It did look like a vacation destination and Clint was suddenly a little awkward about the fact that he had a bow slung over his shoulder. Because there was nothing like stepping into a new, friendly looking city with an obvious weapon, right?

"Welcome to Shell Beach," Clint said, never one to turn down the chance to reference a great movie. Still, he squinted out at the city and then looked at the forest. "You know what," he said thoughtfully. "This is gonna be a weird flex, because I'm a city guy and I'm hoping for a place to get tacos or something but -- let's give the forest a go, first. It just looks friendly. Am I crazy? It looks friendly, right?"

Peter did arch an eyebrow at the Shell Beach thing, he was definitely missing something. But well it was kind of amazing really. The doors were still a novelty to him, and stepping through and finding himself some place else always felt a little bit crazy, especially when that somewhere else was as picturesque as this.

"No, no I know what you mean." Peter said laughing when Clint called the forest friendly. It definitely wasn't one of those fairy tale sort of forests where you thought maybe you were going to have to worry about some witch coming out and trying to cook you for some reason. Were all witches cannibals? Peter sure hoped not. Anyway. "Yeah, I think we should definitely check it out."

And well, they could always go down into the city proper later and see about those tacos, but for now they were heading into the forest, it was fairy tale a little bit. "Are you feeling a little like a Disney princess right now? I'm half expecting some woodland creatures to come out of the trees and offer to help us with chores."

Peter needed to watch more bizarre cyberpunk and dystopian sci-fi, apparently. Clint would get him up to speed one of these days. Once he found a dvd player. And the appropriate dvds. Obviously.

Probably all witches weren't cannibals. Hopefully. If they were, Clint had really lucked out with Wanda only murdering him twice instead of eating him. Especially after he'd been dumb enough to do the do with her, way back when.

Anyway.

"I mean, that'd be cool though, right? Like, a bird that wants to dust? I'd take that help. No one likes dusting. Or doing dishes. I hate that." He fidgeted with the string of his bow as they walked into the woods proper, but didn't look particularly nervous. "Should we sing?" He was joking, but probably would have busted out into tone-deaf song if a little creature he spotted a ways off hadn't made him stop dead in his tracks. "Pete. Psst. Pete. Look at the ---uhhh. Plant. Lizard?"

"I wouldn't say no to some helpful woodland creatures," Peter agreed, whether it was for dusting or other chores. "The laundry, man now that would be the ultimate useful bird." Or any other animal to be honest. Peter was from New York, so you know pets had never been high on his needs list, between apartment living and well all his Spider-Man-ing he was pretty sure he'd have been a very terrible pet parent. But these days - he had some time.

Not that he actually expected any sort of woodland creatures to be coming home with him or anything. But when Clint suggested singing he'd been fully ready to commit to it - because well this just seemed like the sort of place to try it out.

But before either one of them could embarrass themselves, there was - well there was something. "Um." Peter stopped just as suddenly when his eyes landed on it and he watched the little thing walking around, like it was just out for it's own jaunt through the woods. "Well that's a thing." He watched as it used a couple of ... were those vines? ... to pick through a bush coming away with a berry and happily munched on it.

"You know I know we were just talking about woodland creatures, but this was not really what I had in mind." Not that it wasn't kind of cute, in a sort of weird way. Could lizard things be cute? Whatever, it was kind of cute. "Should we... I don't know, approach?" Was that weird? He kind of wanted to pet it or something.

It sure was a thing, wasn't it. Clint looked and looked and then squinted a little before looking some more. But no matter what the angle, it was definitely still a plant lizard with tentacles. Maybe it was a dinosaur? He wasn't sure.

What he was sure of, though, was that there was something about it that made Clint sort of want to name it and help it find more berries. Clearly being a dog owner had wrecked him in terms of animals. They were just all good boys now, every last one of them.

Or maybe it just wasn't being a dog owner, because Alpha Peter seemed to have the same opinions as him. "Yes?" He said, because he had no sense of self preservation and it didn't occur to him that the little creature could be poisonous or murderous or whatever. "Yes. You first." Okay, maybe he had a little self preservation. He had a bow, but Peter had that good, good Spidey sense.

Yeah they were both a little out of their element with this, Peter had heard there were dinosaurs through the doors at some points, but this was something else - he didn't look at this little guy and thing yeah that was a thing that existed millions of years ago. "Right, yeah sure." He said after he'd narrowed his eyes just a little at Clint's insistence that he go first.

"If it eats me- or some bigger one comes out of the trees or something tell Carol Panchos is all hers now." Peter told him, but well it seemed safe enough for now, his senses weren't telling him he had something to worry about, not right there in front of them and nothing hiding nearby watching and waiting for some dummy to decide the plant lizard was meant to be a pet.

But here he was doing it anyway.

Peter approached slowly, partially to be cautious, but also because he didn't want to startle the little guy, chasing a plant lizard through the woods was not on his plans for the day. And soon enough he was standing close enough to it that it noticed him but didn't really seem bothered by him as he moved, still using it's little vines to search for more of those berries. "Hey there little guy," Peter said - the very same way he'd have talked to a dog, and crouched down just a little to get a better look. "How you doing, buddy?"

Yeah right, Parker, the plant lizard was going to talk to you to. Of course then it did, or something like talking. "Bulba-" And Peter nearly fell over.

"Uh, you heard that right?" He said glancing back at Clint eyes wide.

"Alright. And if this is like that scene in Jurassic Park where there's actually a bigger, deadlier animal waiting to eat me after you're over there, tell Nat and Bucky I love them and that they can have joint custody of my dog, but Bucky gets the coffee shop."

Okay, maybe he was going a little too far here, but you never knew. Usually weird creatures and tentacles didn't translate into good things, so far as Clint had ever seen (either in person or on the internet, thank you).

Still, he sort of trailed after Peter, his bow in his hands as opposed to slung over his back. Never hurt to be ready.

He frowned when Peter nearly fell over, and poked him in the back with the tip of his shoe. "Give him a berry from high up," he suggested. Because obviously you were meant to give cute animals treats. That was the law. "And -- yeah. Maybe it's like... how a dog barks?"

"Bulbasaur," Bulbasaured the animal.

If it was talking, it sure didn't have a great vocabulary.

"Uh right, yeah - that's gonna go over well." Peter scoffed at Clint's last requests, but hopefully neither one of them were going to have to worry about the divvying up of their things because this little guy was gonna be nice and not somehow secretly evil or working with an evil friend to murder them while they walked through what looked like a fairy tale forest.

Okay yeah that was - sort of talking? Not really talking but definitely something more than a bark. "Yeah, yeah sure, is that what you want little guy?" He asked like the thing could understand him. Maybe he did? what did Peter know?

He reached up and grabbed for a berry that was a little more out of reach for the animal and offered it to him and watched as it extended the tentacles again picking it up out of his hand and sort of maybe .... smiling at him.

"I'm not going crazy right? This thing is smiling?" He double checked with Clint just briefly before he was looking back to their new little sort of maybe friend, "You're not so bad, right?" He said mostly for his own benefit. "Yeah, you're nice." He extended a hand slowly, until he could tentatively pet it. "That's right, you're a good boy, aren't you?"

"Bulbasaur," was the only response he got.

Clint only shrugged because last requests were last requests. You had to do 'em, or else you were the worst. It was practically law.

But it was getting to be pretty obvious that Peter wouldn't need to remember his lengthy message anyway, since the little animal was like, the goddamned cutest thing that he'd ever seen, and also seemed pretty happy with the offering of more berries. Clint couldn't help but wander a little closer, plop down on the ground next to Peter. "I think he likes you," he told his friend even though it was probably pretty obvious. That bulbasaur was tinted with pleasure and the thing was pressing at his hand in a demand for more pets and oh boy it was almost too much. "This is like.... clearly your animal now."

That was how it worked. Clint knew that, because he had a dog who liked him. Although, admittedly, he sorta wanted a weird little plant dinosaur too now.

Yeah, this things was pretty amazingly cute, even Peter could admit that and then when he started pressing into his hand for pets, well Peter was a goner. He stroked a hand over his head, happy to indulge the little guy and well it was just pretty cool to do something like this. "Yeah? I think maybe you're right." Peter agreed - the little guy did seem to like him and well that was just - unexpected.

And then Clint suggested that it was his now and Peter glanced at Clint, "Is that how this works? I mean I just get to say this one is mine now because he loves these pets- yes you love them, don't you?" He trailed off, his tone rising just a bit and his attention diverting to the bulbasaur as he pet it more, grinning despite himself.

Maybe that was how it worked, this was not at all what he'd expected for today, but here he was petting something kind of like a dinosaur and absolutely loving life.

Sometimes you just had to live life outside the unexpected. It was a thing. Clint was pretty great at it, and he figured Peter ought to be too. Even if they had had a pretty easy run of things in the last few months.

"Uh, yeah," he said, reaching out to pet the little dude too -- and while the bulbasaur seemed to tolerate him, he didn't look overly thrilled like he did with Peter either. "I'm pretty sure that's how it works. That's what Lucky did." It was pretty obvious Peter was into the idea anyway, considering that his voice went up an octave just so he could sweet talk the little thing.

It was really cute. Clint couldn't help but crane his neck a bit, looking around to see if there were any different other animals around.

Huh, well that showed what Peter knew about how one managed to have an animal come into their lives. "Guess that makes sense." Sort of, in like a fairy tale kind of way, but considering they were sort of in a fairy tale forest Peter thought maybe that really just was the way things worked here.

And watching bulbasaur lean into his touch well, Peter thought he was probably okay with that, especially when he saw the little guy not quite as enthused about being pet by Clint too - yeah Clint was right, that was just the way this worked.

"Soooo," Peter said after he got in a few more pets, "Wanna keep looking around?" He asked Clint. There had to be more of these guys around here and well, even if their weren't Peter was kind of into the whole idea of running around this place a bit more now.

Everything here was definitely some kind of fairy tale and if you couldn't get yourself a weird plant dinosaur here, well, then there was simply no hope left for the rest of the universe. That was absolute fact, so long as Clint was concerned.

Anyway, that thing was like, imprinting onto Pete like Clint did to people he had even a millimeter of love for. He could see that a mile away.

He wondered if maybe, if Peter actually ended up keeping this little buddy, if they should think about grabbing one of these bushes of berries to take with them. Because animals and food or something. Bulbasaur probably wouldn't like pizza the same way Lucky did.

"Yeah," he agreed after a beat, rocking forward enough to get the momentum he needed in order to stand. "We should definitely look around some more. The trail keeps going. Might as well see where it goes, right?"

Peter nodded when Clint agreed that they could keep following the trail a bit, he gave Bulbasaur a couple more pets because how could he resist, before grabbing a few more berries as he stood upright once more, pushing himself up from the ground.

"Yeah, maybe this little guy has a family." Or something like that, because yeah Peter could definitely see himself getting even more attached to this little guy than he was already doing, but if he had something here he didn't think he could just take him from it.

"Or maybe there's something even more interesting out that way." Yeah checking this place out more seemed like the right choice. He offered Bulbasaur another berry, "Wanna come with us, little guy?" He asked, like he could understand. Peter had always wondered at people who talked to their animals, and here he was doing it without even thinking twice about it.

"Bulbasaur!" Unlike the pets he'd seen back home though this guy actually kind of sort of talked at him and it sounded like he was agreeing.

"Guess we're all going." He grinned at Clint.

Family. Yeah, that was a fair point, and Clint tended to agree, even if the bulbasaur seemed more than happy to just trot on after them as they went further down the trail. There were a lot of weird birds, some bugs that were somehow cute but also entirely too large for Clint to feel comfortable around, and some truly wild looking fish splashing around in a little river close by.

"We're officially both disney princesses now," Clint pointed out, keeping an eye out for more Bulbasaurs but finding none. "Do you think -- oh my god."

It was a turtle. It was a turtle with a little leaf growing out of it's head and sort of just derping around like a puppy and Clint had to put a hand over his mouth to stop himself making a noise that might be embarrassing later.

"You know, I think I am okay with that." Peter agreed because well - if being a disney princess meant he got cute little weirdos like Bulbasaur following him around then he was definitely about that life.

And by the looks of it this forest was kind of made for living your best disney princess kind of life. The weird little, and some not so little, animals and bugs wandering around was something straight out of a movie - he was just waiting for them to start cleaning or something and really complete the sort of vibe that was already going here.

But then Clint saw something, and Peter saw it too - eyebrows rising up toward his hairline just a little at the sight of it. A sort of turtle, but bigger and definitely happier than any turtle he'd ever seen before.

"Well." Peter started and stopped, not sure what to make of this new guy before he handed Clint a couple of the berries that he'd pick. "I think you should go say hi."
