Wasn't it something, really just something, that Ben couldn't quite tell if they were talking about breakfast or whatever had come before the breakfast? Well -- it wasn't like he didn't know what came before. Ben wasn't stupid, and he certainly wasn't unobservant. He'd been stuck (literally) in plenty of situations where he couldn't do much beyond either watch or pretend he wasn't watching when Klaus had his fun.
Of course, it'd been different, when he wasn't alive. Feelings were different there, not as sharp.
And Ben had never been included in a statement like that before. He tilted his head to the side almost thoughtfully before taking another crumpet. It wasn't as if this entire -- whatever it was -- wasn't being encouraged. And so he only went a little pink when he finally piped up. "Sandwich," he said, and it was ridiculous and not quite what he'd meant to say. "Er. I've heard breakfast sandwiches are good. I'd give one a try."
