Entry tags:doctor thirteen (dw), tony stark (mcu)

Who: The Doctor (DW) and Tony Stark (MCU)
What: Lookin' for new toys
Where: The doors
When: Saturday night

The Doctor was quite eager to go through the doors again. Her first few trips had been eventful, but not as eventful as she was used to. Still, the thought of going through with Tony Stark was promising. Between the two of them, they were likely to at least find some hint of useful tech. And even if not, she could pry his brain some more and theorize about what they might have going on in this mysterious world.

She waited by the door, standing and her hands in her pocket. When she saw him, the Doctor smiled that wide friendly smile of hers and nodded to him. "There you are! Ready to go??"

She was already nodding to the door and clearly eager to jump right in. "Whatcha think we might find?"

When the Doctor smiled, it was sort of infectious. Tony smiled back and offered a wave that was, honestly, a little bit on the dorky side. But he couldn't really help himself, even with the looming threat of going through a door with the unknown on the other side he was -- well. He was in a pretty good mood.

Apparently all it took to put everything to right in his brain was the arrival of a friend, a son, a perfect birthday gift from a girl who he was dangerously close to claiming as his own and the news of his eventual demise.

Weird how that worked.

"I don't know," he admitted, adjusting the lapels of his blazer before stepping in front of one of the doors. It never really seemed to matter which one -- the only rule here was to not touch any that where already opened. "I'm hoping for warm, since I'm definitely not dressed for the alternative." Which wasn't really true, his suit held against pretty much all weather. But that wasn't really the point.

When he opened the door and peeked through, the weather did in fact look warm. And there was a very convenient sign a few feet away -- WELCOME TO SAFFRON CITY.

The Doctor noted Tony's demeanor and it brightened her up a bit more. Something about the way he was carrying himself told her that he was in a better mood. Good. She liked seeing people happy. And Tony Stark seemed like the sort of person that needed that happiness more than others.

Stepping through the door past him, her eyes went wide as she looked around. So many sights and sounds and- creatures? She cocked her head and approached something on the street that appeared to be a cat. But standing on two feet.

Digging into her coat pockets for her sonic, she walked over to squat down next to it. "And who are you?" She grinned and then glanced at Tony. "Do you know what he is??" She scanned him quickly and stared down at it before frowning. She then noticed something else waddling across the street and slowly stood as she realized there were a few of these kinds of creatures all about the city. She was grinning though, almost like a kid in a candy store.

That Tony wasn't faking his happiness well enough most days probably would have come as a blow to his ego, but he supposed he had been pretty mopey lately -- and he'd offered the Doctor a lot more information than what most others would have got. There was something honest and trustworthy about her, the kind you didn't come across all that often.

Tony had to give a pause over the cat who had either learned tricks in a circus or was just -- not natural, maybe. He frowned, not upset but thoughtful as he looked around. It wasn't hard, spotting out other little animals that were very clearly not any animals he knew about.

"Meowth," said the bipedal cat very helpfully before it simply just walked off, like it was used to people just doing strange things around it.

"Uhm," said Tony, and clueless wasn't a good look on him but it wasn't often he watched a flower with legs and eyebrows casually cross the path in front of him either. "Maybe we should go into town."

"Yes. Brilliant idea!" She led the way, her sonic out just in case and looking all about with that huge grin on her face. She was happy- thrilled. This place was amazing! The Doctor always loved seeing new and exciting things, and this world had those in spades.

She was so distracted, that she almost stepped right in front of a vehicle. It honked as she stepped quickly on the curb, and she saw the man glaring at her as he passed. Human. That was confusing. Turning to Tony, she had a perplexed look.

"....Is this Earth? Do you know anything about these creatures where you come from??"

It was amazing. It was nice to run into places through the doors where the prospect of exploration felt worth it,like maybe they could learn something new and enjoy it -- at least, that was how Tony felt because he needed a really big payoff for it to feel worth the levels of anxiety it took him to actually wander through them in the first place.

He wasn't a touchy sort of guy, but he did think that after a near miss with a car, it might be best if he took the back of the Doctor's arm, and lead her across the street and out of the way of further traffic accidents. Well, less of them anyway. If he looked far enough in the distance, Friday could spot out some bicycle traffic as well.

"Maybe a version of Earth," he said, squinting at the tall buildings, and bright colors. "But not ours. Or. Mine or yours anyway." Sometimes he forgot they weren't in the same boat. Or from the same boat, as it were. "That place there," he said once they got a little closer and he could nod to the building in question. "Seems like it'd be .... helpful?" It was bright and red and seemed like a focal point at the very least.

The Doctor looked after the car and realized it was a pretty normal car. Which was odd, because she would assume if this were an alien planet, it would be different. Then she looked at Tony. "Different dimension. Still Earth. Pretty sure we're on Earth." She dodged a two-headed bird on the street and then stopped. "Well, maybe."

Tony was pointing to a large building as the Doctor tracked the bird with her eyes. She really wanted to scan it. Or pet it. But Tony was right. The building looked interesting, and it would make sense to investigate. She walked up beside him and nodded. "Let's go!"

Stepping forward as always, she started towards the building, at least checking before she crossed the streets this time. The whole time, she was smiling widely and looking back at him when she talked. "Haven't had an adventure like this in a while. Alien planet- sort of. Always fun to learn about new species, don't you think??"

"Earth-ish," Tony corrected, pulling out his phone to snap a photo of the bird. Because sometimes you just needed pictures of two headed animals that didn't look like they were caused by unfortunate amounts of radiation.

Still, he'd rather have had answers than pictures so they kept on keeping on -- even though he had to pause a lot more often once they got into the city proper because everyone who was walking around, practically, had a weird animal or alien or whatever they were and that wasn't quite what he'd been expecting.

"It's a good adventure," he agreed because it was interesting and curious but seemed kind of on the mostly harmless side of things. Which was a kind of nice change of pace. "So they're -- what. Pets?" That didn't seem quite right, though, somehow.

Earth-ish. That seemed like a good word for it. Pictures? Good idea! The Doctor reached for her own phone to snap one of the blobby thing across the street before almost getting hit by another car.

Yes, she would have to be careful alright.

"Pets. Maybe a co-species??" She had noticed some of them working, others just walking along. "They live alongside humans here. Like aliens, but..maybe not?" She hadn't seen any aliens like this before. Something told her these were terrestrial.

"We should ask!" And on cue, the Doctor tried approaching a man in a police uniform. "Excuse me!"

She was going to give him a heart attack. Tony was practically certain of it, and he had to press a hand over his chest and keep it there because The Doctor was absolutely unwilling to stop playing in traffic. "Look both ways," he implored and never thought he'd have to tell someone over two thousand years old that sort of thing. And yet here they were.

"Co-species," he repeated, a little curiously over the concept. Of course, he hadn't seen it himself in real life, but Tony was kind of an unashamed sci-fi guy, so he got what she was on about quickly enough. "That might be the case," he agreed. "Something that picks people as much as people pick them." Something a little more than a dog or a cat.

Alien was a weird word for it, he thought. Everything was alien, depending where you were from.

The police officer seemed a little concerned over their questions (because these were things that everyone knew already, obviously) but answered them good naturedly enough anyway -- probably because the Doctor was teeming with energy and it was hard to resist that sort of thing. They were called Pokemon and they were beloved creatures that lived alongside humans in harmony, and if you wanted to try your hand at catching one, you'd probably need some Pokeballs. Sylph Co was just a few blocks down, and that'd be a great place to start for a proper lesson in the stuff.

"Huh," Tony said, peering down the way. "You want to check it out?" Why was he even asking? Of course she did.

The Doctor just rolled her eyes at the traffic comment. Because it wasn't the first time she'd heard it (she was pretty sure she had been shouted at about that habit in every one of her carnations). "Relax. If I die, I regenerate- which means a different face. Huh. Maybe you're right. I rather like this body- just got it." Okay, so she'd give him that little win.

"Yes! A symbiotic relationship. They teach us and we teach them." Why did that sound so right? She shook her head and looked around at the creatures.

"Oooo, yes! Definitely. This way!" She was off ahead of him to the store, marching along and smiling at everything she saw. She was like a child at a toyshop during Christmas, wanting to photograph, touch, explore, ask questions- and by the time they were in the building, she was teeming with excitement and marched over to whoever was in charge. "We need Pokeballs. And training- what sort of training do you have?"

"Okay," Tony said with a contemplative sort of look, "we're talking more about that regeneration thing later. Let's not unpack it this second."

But he was sort of getting on this symbiotic relationship thing, it was genuinely interesting to think about considering it was incredibly unlike humans to make those sorts of connections. The long lasting effects it could have on the world as a whole were -- vast. Everything was probably cleaner, less pollution. If this place had rainforests, they probably weren't in danger of disappearing.

He was town away from his thoughts by the Doctor demanding training and Pokeballs.

Luckily for them, everyone and their uncles were so exciting about Pokemon that it wasn't hard getting what they wanted and finding someone (embarrassingly and endearingly, a small kid volunteered to show them the ropes, going out to some tall grass outside and expertly catching a little bird all while explaining it).

And then they were bogged down with Pokeballs, all stuffed into a bag Tony had had to buy, and he was turning the thing around in his hands in wonder. "This is--" He got it now, why she was amped up to high levels. This technology was fascinating and wildly advanced.

The Doctor would have been happy to answer any questions Tony might have had about regeneration, but she barely even caught the comment as she was so concentrated on the little creatures and the task at hand. And she was thrilled to be taught by the child, wide-eyed and asking questions as he showed them how the Pokeballs worked and demonstrated them in action.

And when all was said and done, they were loaded up and ready to go, holding her own and carrying a few more on a shoulder bag. "They're like mini TARDIS's." She remarked, staring gat them and then looking suddenly at Tony.

"Think we could try to put one of us inside here? I wanna see what it's like for them- depends on how bi g it is. And who designs 'em?" She hadn't been able to get a look at the plans for Pokeballs at the shop- they seemed pretty secretive about the whole thing.

"Imagine how much we could bring back with us through the doors if we could just figure out how to make these work with everythin' else."

"They are," Tony agreed, although he'd never seen the TARDIS in person, he'd heard enough about it to know what she meant. And if they could use that technology for traveling convenience, it would be even better, she was right. Tony was pretty sure he'd make another round or two of shopping for these things before he lost the chance.

"I'm sure we can figure it out," he said, turning one of the balls over in his hands before contemplating some of the bushes in front of them, tall grass moving with the animals. "Slyph co makes them. It's the giant building over there," he said, gesturing vaguely behind them.

He glanced over at her again, curious. "Should we try?"

Oh yes, she noticed how he was eying the bushes then grinned with that impish little smile she had. Well, impish wide smile. "Yes. Yes, I think we should. After you!" She was going to see what he did, though her eyes were sort of drawn to the ball in her hand, examining it closely.

"Maybe we can stop at the factory, eh? It'd be nice to explore a factory." She stopped there, uncharacteristically quiet for her as she studied Tony and stood back a little. Capturing small creatures wasn't always her expertise. Well, it could be. If she had to. But she was gonna let him do it first.
