"You wouldn't be leaving me, professor," Jean protested. "I'm...I just think it's a good idea."
There was a chip of cobblestone laying in the middle of the path ahead of them. Jean reached out with her mind and flicked, causing it to skip across the road in the psychic equivalent of kicking rocks.
"I had a vision, back in Madripoor. No, wait. Actually it was Japan, technically. Pickles and I were having a brief lunch in Japan. Anyway, I had a vision that the Phoenix Force was coming for me, just like it came for the other Jean. And no one believed me. Not Carol. Not Hank. No one. They just thought I had a bad dream."
Jean squinted and tilted her head, "You might have been on a mission at the time."
"Anyway. I had a vision, no one believed me, so I left. I didn't tell anyone where I was going, but I knew I had to get prepared."
