Steve had walked away from talking to Bucky feeling like he'd left his blood spilled on the floor, heart aching and confused and devastated. He and Tony had managed to work through a few things since and while he and Bucky were giving each other space, Steve felt like they might be okay one day. But things with Natasha were a little cold, Steve's fault of course because when it came to things he didn't know how to feel, silence was his go to. He had been angry at Bucky, angry at both of them for not telling him, angry at her for having something that should have been his. But that anger had gone with the goodbye, the realization they had to just let each other go and move on finally.
He wasn't blind, there was something happening there with Clint, Natasha and Bucky but that wasn't his business. If they were happy, he didn't need to understand. But there was still a hurt there, that came with the lie. Not a lie but a purposeful not telling of the truth which they all knew didn't have a great track record, Steve would know. It would fade and he'd move on from it, but he wanted to avoid it and the conversation that would come from it.
That was until he saw Tony's hard jaw and heard that Natasha had brought up the kiss to him, either to hurt Tony or to land a blow on Steve through him and either way he didn't like it. It wasn't fair and it was his responsibility to clear the air.
He knocked at the front door, hands in his pockets as he rocked back on his heels. "Hey, it's me," Steve called.
