Who: Kitty Pryde and Ororo Munroe
What: Kitty is touching base with her people
Where: Around the garden
When: Sunday

Things had been... well she was tempted to say normal, but nothing about this place was truly normal. But things had been crazy since Kitty had found herself here, between her arrival and the house and her trip through the door with Pyro and just everything else, it was a sort of day to day that Kitty was used to as an X-Man. So she could handle this too.

But there were people she needed to check up on, she needed to make sure they were okay, that they were on the same page and that they were working towards getting back. And Ororo was next on her list, so Kitty set out to find her. Thankfully the town wasn't large by any stretch of the imagination and it took her just a short walk to find her friend, looking like she was getting some work done. Leave it to Storm to find a need and set to work taking care of it, even if she had only been here a short time.

Kitty raised a hand in greeting as she approached, "You look like you've already got a plan in mind for how exactly to best use this space." She said with a grin on her face and feeling just a little bit more relieved to see her. It was not an ideal situation for any of them to be stuck there, but if she had to be - that some of her favorites were here too made the sting of it just a little more bearable.

Storm always felt her best when she was in nature, surrounded by green things and fully exposed to the energies of the planet. They were different here - she was never allowed to forget that they existed somewhere that was little more than a scoop taken out of an ecosystem, something shallow and incomplete - but the fact that the village was too small to have had too much of an impact on the land helped mitigate that partially. A spawling metropolis this wasn't.

Even with dirt on her hands and her long white hair piled in a messy bun on top of her head she still looked a little regal, especially as she rose to her full height to give Kitty a hug, careful not to get soil on her clothes. "It's not just me. Sirius Black wanted to help as well, and his spells have been helpful. He doesn't know much about how plants can work together or what sort of soil they do the best in, though. It sounds like they're very used to using magic to take shortcuts with things like that." It was a little disapproving; she didn't necessarily advocate doing things without a little bit of cheating, but she saw it as more enhancing nature than working against it. She wasn't trying to put potato and pumpkin together and forcing them to get along just because she could.

"I don't think I've met him yet." Kitty hugged Storm tightly against her for just a moment, feeling just a little bit better to have her there in the midst of everything. She huffed lightly when Storm told her what she was dealing with. "To be fair, if most people had magic they'd use it to shortcut things too." So she wasn't too surprised really, but it was always better - especially in cases like this - to know what you were doing, just in case you found yourself without the aid of magic.

"I'm sure you'll get it all sorted out soon enough," Purely because she knew Storm was capable of doing exactly that, whether or not she had the aid of magic on her side. "What else have you been doing since you arrived?" Kitty asked, she was doing her best to get a lay of the place, figure out who was doing what, where the weak points were, where there might be spots that needed filling in. And who better to help point her in the right direction than Ororo.

"I've never thought about exploring my magical potential enough to consider how I'd use it," she admitted. She knew, of course, that there were other versions of her that were adept with it, and it had come up on occasion in the past, but she rarely thought of it. She felt complete enough in herself that the idea of adding more power, more abilities, simply wasn't something that tempted much.

Kitty was right, though, that she hadn't been focused solely on the situation of food while she'd been here. She might not have been very outspoken so far, but that didn't mean she wasn't paying attention. She had been an X-Man long enough to know that understanding the environment around you could be vitally important, at times. "Watching, for the most part. There are definite tensions, and too many people with too little to do, but I'm not sure yet whether it's going to be a problem. It may just be an adjustment period."

Kitty huffed lightly when Ororo admitted that he hadn't thought about exploring her magical potential. "If I were you, I'd have delved in deep a long time ago." She sold her shrugging, because well - if Kitty could get her laundry up off the floor without having to actually get up herself? Well then she'd have figured out how to do that ages ago. But such was life, she was not magical and she picked up her clothes off the floor just like most other people in the world.

She'd trusted that Ororo would be taking in everything that was going on even if she wasn't inserting herself into the middle of things since she arrived, and that trust was proven well placed when Storm explained a little of what she'd seen so far. "Any immediate threats you've seen so far?" She asked curious about that as well, other than Pyro Kitty was still in the process of learning who all was there, people who were familiar and yet not made it all that much more confusing. Thankfully she had a few familiar faces here to help her while she was getting her own handle on the lay of things.

It probably was strange that she hadn't. It wasn't as though the X-Men were particularly overflowing with magic-users - magical ability, itself, wasn't a mutation, so the only ones they had tended to have it as a secondary skill along with their actual mutation like Illyana. But then, that was really it, wasn't it? Her first thought was with regards to the use of it. It would be useful, of course it would be useful, but there would always be a part of her that wanted to be more than just the most useful she could be to the X-Men, and definitely more than a soldier. Maybe that was why she'd resisted developing the potential - the best way to make sure that she could never use magic as a weapon was simply to not learn how to use it in the first place. Bad enough, perhaps, that her control over the weather had been used offensively so often. At least Kitty was still able to focus more on the benefits than how something could be misused, and Storm hoped that didn't change.

Then again, she thought ruefully, here Kitty was asking about threats. One day mutants would be able to just live without having to think like this, but today was not that day, it seemed. "Aside from the obvious?" she asked, a little arch. They both knew who that was referring to - though she found that she did want to believe that Pyro would behave here without the same external pressures that existed at home. There never would have been a Brotherhood in a world like this one, where no one knew to hate them. "Not so far. Some people have been here for months and it seems like it's been going well enough. Monitored if not completely stable. I'm not sure whether I think the Avengers truly know the signs they should be worried about seeing, but that might be... experience talking."

Yes, Kitty didn't need Storm to say it when she asked about the obvious thread, Pyro did seem that way initially, but she was reassessing him thus far, he'd claimed he just wanted to be left alone, that he was behaving as much as he ever did. And from what she'd seen so far he did seem to be telling the truth. "I think he's one we don't have to worry about too much." They'd keep an eye on him certainly, but Kitty was planning on keeping an eye on all the mutants, not because she expected any of them to anything bad but because she felt responsible for all of them while they were here. "I went through one of the doors with him yesterday," She admitted.

While she didn't worry about threats from their fellow mutants, she did worry a little about the others that had found themselves here. "I worry about the worlds they've come from if they have no mutants." And simply because they had none was no reason to imagine that they wouldn't be judged. Especially when so many of them wore the faces of people who had been only too happy to work against them back in their own world. She knew of course they were different people, they deserved the chance to prove they were different than the versions they'd known.

"I actually agree with you on that," she admitted; it felt strange to admit, but Pyro had never been one of the manipulative ones. She couldn't see this as being some kind of long con that he was playing, especially after the way he'd reacted to the news of his death. That hadn't been fake. "How did it go?"

It seemed as though the mutant question was one that had been weighing on all of them. It probably wasn't a surprise - she was sure it would affect anyone to know that their entire species simply didn't exist in a world that was otherwise so similar, but for them especially, with the sheer thoroughness that being a mutant affected every part of their lives, it was hard to dismiss the spectres of attempted genocides past. "I'd almost feel better if they at least had stories." Not that it mattered, though, materially speaking. The history of another universe wasn't their most pressing concern. "The best thing we can do is probably keep going as we have been. Be helpful and visible enough that people are less likely to turn against us if there is a conflict someday."

There was a certain cynicism in it, but she liked to think she would have done the same thing even if it didn't have the potential to be self-serving.

"It was -" She paused considering what to call it, and then she shrugged. "It was an experience," She decided finally. "I don't understand how the doors work yet, we ended up in a place that was.... like no world I've been on. John proved to be a very capable partner." She added because it had been true, because he'd watched her back and kept her safe at the expense of himself, another sacrifice she realized. All of it really just had solidified for her that he was one they didn't have to worry about constantly, he could be pushed of course, but most men could, but left to his own devices, he wasn't the threat he'd once been.

She nodded when Storm echoed the sort of sentiment that she had felt, even if the stories had been bad, it would had settled something inside her that felt off knowing that the whole of their species simply didn't exist in some worlds. It was everything some groups had wished for where they were from and she couldn't imagine it. "Yes, same as we do at home." They weren't a threat and considering that most of these people had never heard of mutants let alone encountered them, they didn't have the same sorts of immediate prejudices to work against.

Everyone here seemed to be dealing with their own angst and issues to worry too much about what plagued them here or at home so that was some small comfort. "I don't know what I'll do with myself here." She said finally, there were no X-Men to lead here, no classes to teach, no training - Kitty was at a loss.

Ororo nodded at that; they all had plenty of experience at assessing the capabilities of potential allies - or enemies - and there was no point in second-guessing Kitty's opinion. She might have still been a child when she'd first come to the school, much as Storm more-or-less had been, but they were both full-grown women now. They had been forged into leaders, people who knew too well that sentiment too often came in second to survival.

The whole thing was exhausting.

Day to day practicalities, at least, were something more productive to discuss, rather than treading the same ground over and over. "I think you'll find a lot of people feeling that way. I got lucky with all this." She nodded at the garden plots, still dark with all of the watered soil that the plants hadn't yet grown enough to cover. "There's so little to do and even less delegation that it could become a real problem eventually."

She nodded, her lips thinned out a bit as Ororo's assessment of the place seemed to mirror her own. Plenty of people looking for something to do, finding small odd jobs but nothing truly meaningful in many cases. Ororo was right for this job, Kitty knew that, just like she was sure many of the other jobs that people were taking upon themselves would be good for them but this wasn't a true city there weren't employers with positions to be filled.

It would be one thing if it was a group of mutants, Kitty could have very easily taken up her previous leadership role and assigned tasks that suited everyone, but it was more difficult to do something like that in a place like this. It was no wonder Stark hadn't attempted anything like it, instead leaving people to find what suited them best rather than trying to assign roles. And he did seem to be aware of the needs of town - she didn't doubt his abilities for all that she might have doubted the man back home.

"Let's hope it doesn't get to the point where it becomes a problem, they do seem eager enough to help one another, that's something." She just hoped that sort of mentality remained as their numbers grew. A small group worked together more easily, everyone was far more dependent upon one another, but the larger their group got the more dissenting voices they could have. "We'll have to keep an eye on that in any case."

The advantage of that, Storm thought privately, was that the best way to keep an eye on things was to mingle. Even when they didn't intend to mutants had developed a habit of being insular, too used to only being able to rely on each other when push came to shove. She herself had done the same thing in the past - joining the Avengers, branching out, only to walk out on them the moment they knew that the Phoenix was coming for Hope Summers. It was a decision that had cost her, too.

"We won't need to worry about Bobby, at least. He seems to be making friends just fine." He always did, of course, in a very distinctly Bobby way that always made her smile a little. He was easily the most extroverted of the group that was here.

Kitty laughed softly and shook her head. "No, Bobby has always been good at that." She agreed, he was making friends and already seeing someone, at least a little bit. She loved him, she really did and she was glad there was one person here she didn't feel like she had to babysit. Bobby as always was a delight, and she was glad he seemed to be finding a place for himself here. It was just the rest of them that were going to need a little bit of work.

"I guess I'm just going to continue what I have been." She decided with a sigh, "Making the rounds, checking in on our people occasionally, trying to be of use." And of course keeping an eye out for the things that they always knew were coming, even if they couldn't see them yet. She could do her best to make sure they were as prepared as possible for whatever eventuality they might have to deal with.
