Clark hadn't seen many people from his world. There were a few who seemed to know him, but it felt strange being alone. Though you'd think he'd have grown accustomed to it. Knowing you weren't like everyone else always felt isolating. Being afraid people might discover your secret, kept him from sharing who he as to other people. Still, he reminded himself it was no different than, perhaps, going to camp. There were some kids who had arrived together or had known each other from before the summer. Clark's coping mechanism, though, was to hide and to keep a low profile. It wasn't always the best course of action which was why he took this first step.
He hadn't been completely surprised. He'd heard Steve's footsteps right before he spoke. Clark glanced up at the blond man. He was the one they called Steve. A bulk of the people in this place were from some version of the same reality (a multiverse situation he was still wrapping his head around), and from what he could tell -- he was a leader of some kind. He offered Steve a nod in greeting and smiled at the compliment.
"Thanks," he said as he set the tree down. "Making a few things for the library. Not sure how much they're going to need, but I could probably have it all built in couple days." If he wanted to, anyway. Sooner, really. But in a world where there was not much to do, he figured it'd be good to prolong it. Plus, it'd be a shame to make an entire library's worth of furniture only to have it decided it was the wrong style or something.
