"As a soldier," he said with another chuckle, "I understand". And he nodded in agreement. Fashion was an interesting thing. Certainly more revealing than in his time, and certainly increasingly less rigid in its expectation. "People watching is hard for me sometimes," he admitted. "Everything about this time is..." He shrugged. "In some ways so different than mine that I often feel out of touch." But then, of course, there were some things that didn't change -- like what it means to be human, kindness, and a zero tolerance for bullies, and bullies, it seemed, were everywhere: past, present, future, planetary or intergalactic.
He hesitated. "There were some bad men," he said, finally, a distant look on his expression. "They were doing some awful things to some good people, and we did our best to try and help the people in need." His smile faded slightly. "It was a tough time." He quickly came out of the walk down memory trenches and smiled. "But that was a long time ago, and things there are better than ever."
