It seemed fairly benign as they stepped through the door, it was just a hardware store - which was, you know, kind of great all things considered. Pyro had the right idea about grabbing some supplies on their way back through. The town was all sorts of cobbled together and having a wider set of tools and supplies could only help things. "Yeah, we'll have to grab a cart or -"
She trailed off as they made their way toward what she hoped was the front of the store so they could get out, when they walked into the open and saw nothing but men around them. Which wasn't all together weird, it was a hardware store after all and she knew some places could be more conservative than others, what she hadn't expected was the way they responded to John, calling him champ?
And then the intense reaction to seeing her there with him, that got Kitty's hackles up. It wasn't the first time she'd been called an it before, mutants were often seen as less than where they were from, but it wasn't often that people could look at her and just know she was a mutant, and if they could why would they respond to her that way and not John. But they weren't sticking around to see what the deal was as they made their way past all the angry faces and out front.
"I couldn't even begin to answer that." She said looking back over their shoulders as Pyro checked on them again, no one seemed to be following them now that they were outside. "You don't think that was like a mutant thing, do you?" It didn't really make sense but it was about all she could come up with.
But with no one chasing them, it was probably a good idea to see if they could find what they'd actually been looking for rather than getting caught up on a bunch of strange men on a power trip - the story of Kitty's life, to be honest. "Over there!" She pointed, they were in fact in something like a shopping center, there were a couple of other shops but what was most important for them - "A grocery store, your big plan might just happen."
