The longer she went showing off like that, the more impressed Tony became. That she was managing several globes of water and moving them all at the same time while they were talking? Well it was an impressive display both of ability but also focus and concentration - both things that Tony could lack at times. He was already thinking of a million different ways he'd use an ability like this, but then thought of his bots and was sad for just a second at the idea of putting them out of a job if he could do something like this.
But maybe that was the point, Jean could use her abilities to move things, to lift water and hear the thoughts of others and probably a whole host of other things that she wasn't showing off, but Tony had his own abilities, he created the tools he needed to do what he imagined, he made the bots to help him out, even when they were often times more of a hindrance than a help, but that wasn't really the point. It was all just kind of interesting from where he was sitting.
And as she explained to him the different kinds of mutations that her friends had Tony couldn't help but think about how useful all of those things would be, how those were the kinds of things that could potentially help in so many different ways. Not just for a single person but people as a whole, mutant or not.
He frowned when she went on to tell him about some of the hardships and bigotry that they faced as mutants. "Ugh of course, I guess it'd be too much to hope that people learn how to not be awful in any reality." He knew there were people who didn't approve of what they did as Avengers, of course there would be people who didn't want mutants around simply because they were mutants - it was a different level of course, what they dealt with as Avengers was something they chose to deal with, Jean said they were simply born mutants, you couldn't choose that sort of thing for yourself. "I'm sorry about that." Not because he was the one doing any of it, but that was a shit hand to be dealt.
"Do you think things could get better?" He wondered, there would likely always be bigots in the world because someone always had to be an asshole, but maybe people could learn and grow? Maybe Tony had too much hope for the human condition.
