"It's a lot like that, actually," Jean blurted out as Tony's thoughts trickled through her mind in his own voice, something about being a younger version of another you, people tended to look at you strangely. Older Jean, future Jean, Xorn Jean, Clone Jean, Evil Jean. Dead Jean. Everyone knew every other Jean but her.
She touched the back of her neck and laughed awkwardly. Her breath was still coming quick and shallow, she realized, and her heart felt like it could practically explode at any second.
"Sorry, do you mind if we sit for a second? I've been running and I'm just, like, a bit winded."
Jean made for the fountain, though she realized that was literally where Tony had just came from. When she got to the stony edge, she reached down and cupped a handful and splashed it over her face. Wow, that felt great. Removing the tie, she let her symmetrical bob of wavy red hair fall down naturally. Then she grabbed another handful of water and gulped it down. What was it going to do, kill her?
"Whew, that's better," she said, paired with a sigh of relief. Jean eased down onto the stony lip of the fountain and placed her hands in her lap. "Anyway, yeah, I'm new. We talked on the, um, on the phone. For a sec, I think? I'm Jean Grey. Or, uh, Marvel Girl. In this outfit." She pointed at the giant yellow X across her green suit.
It was definitely hard to ignore Tony's louder thoughts. The ones with the name Steve were particularly echoing around her mind.
