Paige Guthrie had pretty much spent the time since she'd arrived checking out this place. It was better to know what one was up against than not and when in doubt, research was in order. So she'd been doing her own little brand of research here. Buildings, roads, bodies of water. She'd stayed out of people's way for the most part and just focused on what was around her. What was here. What she'd gotten herself into.
That was how, by sheer accident, she'd seen him.
She hadn't known too much about him back home, other than he was a member of the Brotherhood and that she'd come up against him more than once. She'd heard he went out fighting for their side before the Legacy Virus or something took him. That stupid virus. It was the one time she'd gotten drunk and she'd ended up being the cause of the entire damn school being blown to shit because her kiss caused Jono to overload.
That had been a right clusterfuck.
But still... he was supposed to be dead. And yet, here he was, walking around like he was looking for something.
Why did he get to be alive but Jay had to stay - no... she wouldn't let herself get caught up in that kind of thinking. That kind of thinking only led to misery and more guilt. As if she didn't have enough guilt to deal with.
But he was still a member of the Brotherhood. He was still supposed to be dead. So Paige followed suit, her curiosity over what he was doing more in control than her logical mind. But, she supposed, curiosity tended to go a long way in finding out what one didn't know.
She should have been paying more attention. Maybe if she had, she wouldn't have ended up jerked up against a wall with a fireball inches from her face. Still, her chin was tipped up and she was getting ready to rip her skin away when St. John Allerdyce realized who she was. That alone was quite the surprise.
She had to swallow before she could speak as he'd caught her off guard and there was a spike of fear that ran down her spine. "Fancy seein' you here... what with you bein' dead an' all." Eyeing the ball of fire at his hand, she grimaced. "Mind commencin' with tha extinguishin' there?"
