Times were growing darker and crazier these days. Disappearances were being mentioned left and right in the Daily Prophet. The self-proclaimed terrorist, Lord Voldemort, had struck such fear into the hearts of the Wizarding Community that people were afraid to say his name. Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts School, had put together a group of witches and wizards dedicated to fighting off You Know Who, along with his followers, the Death Eaters. James was a part of that group. He was a member of The Order of the Phoenix, along with his best friends and his girlfriend. His exgirlfriend. Because things changed las night.

After a screaming match with Lily, the fiery redhead who had owned James' romantic interests since they were eleven years old, James had gone home to find Sirius and dove into a bottle of Firewhiskey. He honestly and genuinely thought that this was the end of James and Lily. Lily and James. It hurt too much for him to even contemplate.

"No, mate. We're really done this time. I mean it," he'd told Sirius, then poured himself and his best friend another shot. James hadn't wanted to talk about the fight or what it meant. Though in his heart he knew they were finished. The rest of the night had been a blur.

When James got the message from Dumbledore to meet him in Hogsmeade, he was relieved. The self-punishing side of him had refused Sirius' offer of a hangover cure until the note from Dumbledore came, and then James took it. Feeling quite a bit better almost immediately after sipping the potion, James grabbed his cloak and wand, and apparated straight to the wizarding village. But when he arrived he was not where he thought he should be.

"What--?" James nearly dropped the wrapped up cloak he had tucked under his arm as he surveyed his surroundings. Unless Hogsmeade had undergone a drastic transformation since the last time he'd been there, this wasn't Hogsmeade.

He took a few steps forward and spied a table. Wand at the ready, James stepped forward to look at it, noting his name written on a paper there. At the sound of approaching footsteps, he abandoned the inspection of the paper and turned suddenly, wand at the ready.
