"Uh...yeah. Jesus, I'm out of the loop." Okay, she wasn't that mad, but this was definitely something she wanted to know earlier. Nat had read her right. Carol was bold as brass and used to being involved. It was how she'd gotten noticed for the Air Force, and how she had been forced to grow up. Bold was what had gotten her to where she was now. Even if it wasn't always a good thing.
Carol shook her head, taking a moment to process it all before she turned back to the lake. "So...is this why you're so desperate to move out?" Not that Carol could blame her. She was happy for her friend. Her understanding of Nat was that she'd been through enough for a dozen lifetimes, and she needed this. She deserved this. This place was her second chance, even if so many others saw it as purgatory.
"I get to kick his ass if he hurts you, though. Right?" She leaned back on her hands, already having made the choice. The question was definitely rhetorical.
