"No, you wouldn't. You'd just hate for me to bring it up every time I felt like I deserved your sympathy." He said, momentarily deflecting. "Anyway, this Dick isn't our Dick, even if neither of them can hold their scotch. He might decide he wants to stay forever. But I wonder if that's a choice we even get to make. Something brought us here against our will, if it puts us back it'll probably be something we don't get a say in."
He was keenly aware she wasn't just talking about Dick. It was just easier to pretend that it was all about her old flame than the possible never was between them. They would have been bad for each other, Jason had been pretty sure of that for a while, something that the teenage boy who used to crush hard on her couldn't begin to fathom. But that kid hadn't known what was coming for him. The man he was now knew too much, such as how much he would have fucked up her life and just how he would have broken himself if he hadn't rejected her.
Jason wanted to claim he was being noble, trying to protect her, but deep down he was sure he was just being scared and selfish.
"We could kick the hornet's nest until it decides we're too much trouble and sends us home? Annoying people into submission is surprisingly effective, or so says all the Arrows." He really did owe Ollie a punch to the face, now that he thought about it.
