Jason let her hug him a little before he properly hugged her back. Pretending he didn't desperately want the affection he was offered was only something he got away with when it came to Dick, sometimes Bruce when they were on speaking terms. With Barbara though, he really couldn't pretend. He didn't have the heart to give her the shit he gave them. She had a hard enough time, and Jason would claim they deserved his stubbornness most of all.
"The girl scouts park themselves outside those big box stores these days. They don't come to me, I've got to go to them." And given the way Jason tended to eat when he wasn't working, well, there was a reason why they got excited when he turned up. "They're all lucky I don't have the patience to wait for delivery. Of course, if I'd known I was going to end up somewhere where I couldn't just run over to Costco or whatever I might have stocked up."
He held her a little tighter and lightly rubbed her back, eventually pulling back so he could meet her eyes. "It hasn't been so long for me. Uh, twenty sixteen, Roy and I were dealing with that whole Duela thing. He got grabbed by The Iron Rule. You made sure I saved his ass and I had to go and be me about it, kill a few people and not take you up on your offer of help. Please tell me you remember that, or that you're at least from a timeline where Damian is keeping his cow in the Cave."
