"Something like that." She smirked at his assumption of instant powers. If only it had been so easy. And so much less painful. But why go into that when they were having a good time?
His story was worse. At least it was for Carol. She didn't really think of herself as a victim. Not that she wasn't about what happened, but she always thought she could ultimately save herself. Case in point, breaking free from the Kree. John's story was heartbreaking. Her face was stoic as he spoke and she took a moment to let it sink.
She completely understood his demeanor now. There had been times she'd failed. She drank because she'd failed. But she'd never witnessed something so tragic.
"I'm sorry." Her words were genuine and she looked like she'd wished there was more to say. There wasn't.
"So....now you try to save others, huh?" Or so she would assume. Carol tended to think the best of people, deep down. Even if she didn't always show it.
"Do you ever think- I mean....do you think there's a way to bring them back?" She realized how stupid it sounded only after she said it. But, if a demon could come up,why not a person?
