WHO: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Evaan Verlaine
WHAT: Trying (and probably failing) to avoid spoilers
WHERE: Town square
WHEN: April 24th
RATING: Lowish

It wasn't difficult to find Kenobi after giving him time to settle in. Jedi robes were unique enough, they weren't common in Evaan's experience and in Starklandia they made the master stand out. She would have known him in any clothes though. She knew his face. He looked the same as he had the last time she remembered seeing his face on the HoloNet. She'd been six years old at the time, though if it was before the Empire's purge of the Jedi Order or after it she couldn't rightly remember. She did remember paying special attention to the reports as a child, hearing about the exploits of Kenobi and Skywalker had been more entertaining than most of the stories her parents would read her. Of course, whatever of his features her youth and years since might have made fuzzy, were cleared away years later after Yavin when the Princess had seen to it that an old image of the Jedi Master be added to their remembrance wall. She'd spent a lot of time in front of that wall, she got to know most of the faces on it.

Of course, all the faces on that wall were gone with no logical hope of returning to life. But then there was Kenobi. In the flesh. Alive and twenty years younger. The Force worked in mysterious ways alright.

Evaan had taken care to make herself presentable. She'd pulled her hair up in a traditional Alderaanian style, made sure her boots were polished and that her high-collared yellow jacket was spotless. If she'd had her dress uniform she might have worn it, even if it felt like a silly impulse. It did feel important not to be slovenly when meeting a legitimate galactic hero and Jedi Master. So, of course, when she approached him in the square, she bowed. "Master Kenobi? I'm Lieutenant Evaan Verlaine, I think we have some things to talk about."

Kenobi had been sitting at a table outside, staring at the device that he'd been given by Peter and trying his best to figure out if there was a way to send word off this planet. Or whatever it was. When someone approached, he glanced up. And he was honestly surprised to see such familiar clothing and for someone to know who he was. He looked a bit confused at first but smiled and stood. Yes! Evaan, he knew that name. She seemed to be from his star system, at least, but she claimed from a future date.

"Yes, Leiutenant. It's a pleasure to meet you." He nodded back to her with a warm smile, though he was surprised with how she was staring at him. And a little confused. Of course, Obi-Wan had fought in the Clone Wars and served in many prestigious positions, but he did not fancy himself very famous or a hero by any means. Just a man who did his best to follow the path and who often made mistakes by doing so. The most recent of which was still haunting him and would for the rest of his life.

"So you've been here a little while, perhaps you can tell me more about this place?" He had shrugged off the larger robe due to the warmth outside, wearing only his Jedi tunic and standard clothes, his lightsaber secure around his belt as he approached. "Have you learned anything so far?"

Evaan straightened, resisting the urge to salute as well. It had been half to show him the respect he was owed but the other half was just her needing to do something with her hands. It seemed like a silly thing really. She'd been mentored by the Queen of Alderaan, had occasion to meet her husband when her father worked for him. She was close to Leia. She knew Luke when he was just a farmboy who had never flown an x-wing and before he picked up his lightsaber. She should have been used to being surrounded by heroes, yet a part of her felt so anxious to be meeting the Jedi face to face finally.

Eventually, she settled on clasping her hands behind her back. "Not as much as I would like, Master Jedi. This planet seems empty save for those of us who have been brought here in one way or another. We're all from different times and universes, though there are a great many people here who know each other so it doesn't seem likely that the selection of people who are brought here. Stark, Tony Stark, he's made himself the leader in a way, built the power grid, worked on the plumbing, clever enough that he can follow-through on his projects but egotistical enough to slap his name on our little section of this planet."

Stark had done more than that but Kenobi could find out more details for himself if he cared.

"No spaceport, no transportation that we didn't make. No getting any messages off-world and no receiving them apparently. I did my best to salvage the comms on my ship but even without proper parts, I can say for certain that we're pretty alone out here. The closest thing I can think is a quarantine, but I can't figure what the common denominator for all of us would be and there haven't been any signs of illness." She shrugged. "Oh, and there's a building with doors that lead to different places that makes no sense at all within the usual confines of reason, physics, and everything we know about space and time. I recommend avoiding that place unless you're looking for a headache."

Obi-Wan could tell the poor woman was nervous but he wasn't sure why. He watched as she seemed to fiddle with her hands, and wanted to ease her mind. Maybe it was just her nature? But she presented herself formally so he wasn't sure if that was really the case.

As she explained the situation, he nodded and sighed, stroking his beard and thinking it over. Stark. Right. He remembered hearing about him before. And he wasn't really sure what to think of him. Men like Tony Stark- or at least, men who sounded like Tony Stark were usually never good in leadership roles. Then again, he hadn't exactly met the man, so should he judge?

"Hmm...so we're stranded for now." Obi looked up at the sky, squinting against the planet's single sun. "I think the doors might be our only option. Has anyone been through one, yet?"

It felt like the most reasonable step, even if they'd have to be very cautious about it.

It had to be the dead thing. Or perhaps it was the knowledge that they were unlikely to have ever brought down the death star without his sacrifice. She'd briefly considered it being part of her reaction to thinking about Alderaan, though that thought had been dashed pretty quickly as she tended to just be angry about Alderaan, not nervous.

In reality, the reasons behind her nerves weren't important. She'd get over it with more exposure to him and unfortunately for Kenobi, he was likely to be stuck there for a long while.

Evaan nodded. "They go through all the time. Half of what makes life livable here is what they bring back. And I don't just mean parts to produce the power we have, I mean things like food, clothing, essentials. Apparently, they lead to different places and times and they never seem to be the same for long. People go in but they always seem to come back. The people who disappear from here are said to just vanish."

He looked thoughtful as Evaan explained the doors. clearly considering how they could use that to their advantage. When he spoke again, it was slowly and quietly. "We need to try. Maybe if we go through one, we can get a signal out."

He still hadn't wrapped his head around the whole multi-universe thing that supposedly existed here. Of course, he hadn't seen much.

"So...I'm going to have a lot of questions for you. Just be forewarned. You seem to know all about me, but I know little about you. For example, what am I to you? And also, how did you come to be trapped here?"

Those were just the beginning of his questions, of course. He had many more after that. Despite himself, he would probably eventually inquire about the fate of the Republic. And worse still, the fate of Padme.

She couldn't argue with him, maybe Stark and the other clever ones had tried that already but there was every chance their tech might work a little better since it was designed for different ranges.

"I remember you on the HoloNet during the Clone Wars. They called you The Negotiator, unsurprisingly you were the favorite general of many an Alderaanian because of that." They would have preferred no war at all, they were a planet of artists and artisans, philosophers, general pacifists, but they'd understood the reasons for it, at least at the time. "But personally, I can't say I know all that much. We had never met in person but we had friends in common. To me, you're just a hero of the movement I was a part of. I'm not sure how much you want me to reveal, but you helped make it possible for us to destroy an Imperial superweapon that was able to wipe out life on a scale that that galaxy hasn't seen since ancient times."

She wouldn't lie to him, lying to someone who could read minds seemed like an exercise in futility, but he really didn't need every detail.

"I'm a pilot with the New Republic Navy. After a mission, I was heading back to Chandrila where we're stationed and I lost power with no warning. Drifted through space for a while, couldn't recognize anything, couldn't contact anyone. A little later I drifted into this planet's gravity and it brought me down. It pretty much destroyed my y-wing but I survived, salvaged what I could from my ship and was lucky enough to get the help of the people who were stuck here before me."

He actually smiled, feeling a little bit prideful at the mention. He knew he shouldn't, but Obi-Wan was still human, after all. "Well, thank you. Sounds like history has been kind to me in that regard."

Then she said something that struck him. "Imperial? What do you mean by Imperial?" That was a troubling word, and one he'd heard before.

A superweapon? He was trying to figure out where such a thing could have come from. He had known the Senate had fallen but had it really gotten so bad?

"So...there was war." He frowned, Obi-Wan clearly looking none-too-happy at the notion.

"From what I understand, when the Clone Wars ended and the Jedi were, well, called traitors and purged from the galaxy, the Republic became the Empire. Around five or six years ago we found out about the superweapon and that got the war started in earnest, somewhere in the middle of finding out about the weapon and destroying it, Palpatine dissolved the senate and made it a true Empire. There's more, of course. A lot more." She explained.

She shifted a little, now folding her arms in front of her. She didn't see Alderaan exploding in the back of her mind now, that had to be progress, especially as she hadn't had anything to drink yet that day.

"We lost a few billion people but in the end we were able to force the Empire to surrender and our rebellion became the New Republic. The Empire isn't completely gone, the missions I was working on before I arrived here were primarily taking out imperial installations that refused to abide by the terms of surrender. No such thing as complete peace in the galaxy, I'm sure you know that but it feels like things were starting to get better."

"Purged??" That disturbed him, and there was more emotion flickering in his eyes than she would have seen yet. The hint of shock and horror at the thought. He shook his head and realized he'd already heard too much. But he couldn't resist knowing more. "Palpatine." He practically spit out the man's name. Of course, he was behind this.

But at least there was hope. Evaan said that after this horrible war there was a new beginning. "And the Jedi Order?"

He assumed that just because they were purged did not mean they were completely gone. Or so he hoped. He believed they would find a way to survive and rebuild. They had for thousands of years, after all.

Perhaps she should have left that part out but the Jedi deserved to know. Or it at least felt like he deserved to know.

Evaan sighed softly, "It was outlawed, any members or anyone sympathetic the empire managed to catch were put to death. But I can't really tell you much of what was going on underground. Someone I used to fly with, he was very strong in the Force, or so he said, he trained with what masters he knew survived. I believe there were others, there were always whispers of surviving Jedi, but this kid, I think he's planning on creating a temple and reviving the Order. I don't know any set plans he has, I haven't seen him in ages, but he seems dedicated."

They'd all be dead without Luke and without Kenobi Luke would never have made it off Tatooine. Maybe that had something to do with her nerves.

His face turned to stone again as she explained. There was one, at least. And he seemed like a fighter. Obi-Wan wanted to ask about his own fate but thought better of it. Instead, he simply nodded and looked away

"...One more question." He started quietly and knew he shouldn't ask, but.... "Senator Padme.Amidala. Was there word on her fate? Do you know?" It had been 25 years, but she had been a key member of the Republic. If he was known, surely she would be as well..

"Senator Amidala." She repeated, thinking hard. It wasn't a name she was wholly sure she knew. She hadn't kept up with the senate news much growing up and whenever her father came home he didn't speak much about the work that Senator Organa was doing and who he was doing it with. It was possible that she was dead. There had been a lot of death, especially during the time this Obi-wan had supposedly come from, but Evaan had only been six years old at the time and senators were not as interesting as Jedi.

She shook her head after a moment of consideration. "I'm sorry, Master Kenobi. That name isn't familiar. Did she perhaps have other names? Or is there anything else you can tell me about her?"

His face fell some and he shook his head, staring down. Did he tell her? Perhaps he could give her some information and not all? It wasn't unknown that she had been married to Anakin, even if it was supposed to be a secret. And that she had been with child (though she tried to hide that, too).

"She...was a dear friend. She was with child when we last saw one another, but....the child's father died. I was on my way to tell her. She was the one who discovered the plot in the Senate. I was hoping that she was safe- that both she and the child were safe."

Now, he was not sure if he would ever know. "It doesn't matter right now. Right now, we must concentrate on getting out of here, returning to our own times."

"Of course, Master Kenobi." She nodded. Evaan began to wonder if all that talk about Jedi was just that. She'd heard they concealed their feelings or just plain didn't have them. Luke hadn't been trained like the masters, he had been just a kid that lost his family and was in over his head, his abundance of emotion was unsurprising. She sympathized and just got on with things.

Obi-Wan though. He was different. She could see the pain and possible loss written all over him. He clearly felt things, he probably felt too much and he would feel a lot more if she continued to tell him of what would happen in his future. Something told her telling him of Bail and Alderaan would upset him more than his own death. The Jedi way and all that, they were prepared for death and to give their lives for others.

Evaan never considered herself an empathic person but her chest ached, knowing how Obi-Wan must have felt. She didn't like it much. "As you said, the doors might be our best bet. I don't fancy trying to break atmo, mostly because I'm relatively sure we can't even if we had a ship that could do it."

Obi-Wan looked up at the sky, considering what she was saying. If they had already tried and failed, perhaps Evaan was right. Ships were not the way to go. "Very well. Then we study the doors and learn as much as we can about where they lead."

He forced a smile and nodded to her. "Maybe you can lead the way? Or should we prepare, first?"

Yes, he was willing to jump right into danger. Another example of how this Obi-Wan was still young and maybe a little bit overly optimistic. He hadn't watched Padme die or gone into hiding, yet. He still had that hope.

"You won't need much," Evaan said, resting her hand on her holstered blaster. She'd been happy enough to find it survived the crash, even happier to find it in working order when she realized just how outgunned she was if things went bad. Carol and her incredible hands, she didn't want those turned against her, the same was true for her more powerful friends as well. A blaster didn't level the playing field there but it made her feel better. "But perhaps some emergency rations and some form of med kit wouldn't be a terrible idea. Medical treatment here isn't exactly what we're used to. Some people here might know how to do magic and whatnot, but healing is another matter."

Really, magic wasn't so different when compared with bacta, at least from her perspective of not quite understanding it. But the 'magic' she knew was better than what she didn't.

"Beyond that, I couldn't give you any clue as to what's behind any particular door. Could be a world of monsters, it could be empty entirely. I suppose it depends on how lucky you get, and I don't know about you but my luck hasn't been the greatest. Best to prepare for the worst." Evaan admitted.

Obi Wan frowned at the notion of magic, though he had discussed the matter with Peter. "This place is definitely stranger than anywhere I've been before." And that was saying something considering the places he'd been. He was happy to follow her, curious about what these doors might be, but his mind drifted to something he had been thinking of since his encounter with the man by the lake.

"Do you notice anything odd about the residence here?" It felt like they were the same, yet different. He hadn't really met anyone, but so far he'd seen at least one person flying through the skies (which was strange on it's own), not to mention a suspicious man practicing with what looked to Kenobi like holograms as he walked to the coffee shop the other day.

"And while we're mentioning it, would you be able to recommend a place to settle in? I know I'm supposed to 'pick a place', but I also don't know who to trust around here."

"Anything odd, Master?" She raised an eyebrow at him. "There are people here that are nearly indestructible. Tech geniuses in metal suits. People who can change their size at will. Wizards. Duplicates of the same person from other universes. People with other fantastical powers that even the Force probably doesn't grant. I mean, comparatively, I'm just a pilot, but even I noticed our fellow Starklandians are more than odd. If you want to talk about something specific you're going to have to be more specific." It all should have made her uneasy but it didn't. There hardly seemed a better-eqquiped group of people to get everyone back where they needed to be.

Evaan shrugged, "No one here seems interested in causing too much trouble, and the ones that do cause trouble are easily shamed into behaving themselves. I'm not saying you should trust everyone here, we're both too old to be that naive but most places seem relatively safe and quiet. Personally, I'm a couple blocks from the square. I'm not the farthest out and I'm not the most toward the center. It seemed to make the most tactical sense to me, whatever happens, it should give me time and space to do whatever the situation calls for."

As she spoke, his eyes stared ahead, but it was clear from his facial expression he was thinking over this. It felt impossible. The things she described were impossible. What sort of place was this, and what sort of people were these? "When I first arrived, there was a man who helped pull my ship out of the lake. he had unusual strength and shot...webs from his arms." Shaking his head, Obi-Wan actually laughed. "If I hadn't seen that with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe anything you said just now. But....I do."

So strange. And frightening, if they were to turn on each other.

"Would you mind if we stayed close? I think it might be to our advantage to remain in class contact, considering. I'm not saying I don't trust anyone, but from where I'm from, I have learned that even my closest friends can...change." He'd seen a lot in recent months, and it frightened him. He should not have felt so. It wasn't the way of the Jedi, but they were in a difficult position now.

"Sounds like Peter Parker," Evaan said with a nod. She hadn't interacted much with the man herself but she got the gist of what he could do from the network and watching him at the bar the brief moments she'd been able to take her eyes off the other owner. "There are others here who have his same abilities and others who are far stronger. It wouldn't surprise me if there were even stronger people to come."

What was the point of collecting people if you didn't collect the interesting ones, Evaan figured. She wasn't sure why she was there in that case but it was probably best not to think too hard about a hypothesis she didn't have any evidence for.

"I'd welcome it. I've heard that Jedi attract trouble but I'm sure the benefit of having you and your lightsaber close outweighs that." And with any luck, he was more skilled than Luke had been. Not that she didn't consider him handy or skillful, but the holes in his training had been obvious from time to time.

Obi nodded. "Yes, that was him. Interesting man. I will say he was very good-hearted. I owe him." It was nice to meet a friendly face soon after such a devasting event.

He laughed at her comment about attracting trouble and shook his head. "Believe me, it's not always because we want it. Well...sometimes." He grinned, something a little out of character from the way he had presented himself so far. A hint at the younger version of himself. Less guarded. "But it's probably better that we try not to, yes? Until we have a better idea about what's going on here."

And who they could trust. There was definitely some tension over who could be trusted, now. And if some of these individuals had such powers, what would happen if any of them were tempted towards the darker sides of things. How would others react?

That did seem to be the common thread about those with special abilities so far. They were all very dedicated to doing good and helping people. Even Stark, a man she had wanted instantly to distrust, proved that he believed in doing what was best for everyone. She'd understood fairly quickly that she had gotten lucky. Nearly everyone she met could have turned her into nothing but a stain on the sidewalk if they wanted, but they were all more concerned with helping her with the remains of her ship and making sure she didn't blow herself up.

It was something like what she imagined it was like being so close the Jedi, back when they weren't being slaughtered on sight.

"I should hope so, Master Kenobi. All I have are my wits, my blaster and maybe a bomb if you gave me heads up enough to rig it. My gut says be diplomatic, at least until we get a ship we know can break atmo. It's much easier to make friends here anyway." She pointed out.

He nodded again and smiled. Good. Friends were better, anyway. Especially friends that were allies and wanted to help. "We're lucky. At least we didn't crash on an Imperial planet, right?" Again, he didn't know much about this Empire, but they seemed like bad news.

"So...if we are going to break free, there will need to be a gathering of supplies. And, perhaps, more mechanical help. Unless you think you can repair the ships yourself?" She seemed pretty capable, but he would want to ensure the quickest escape possible.

"In the meantime, maybe we should keep our heads down? Find a place to settle and plan."

"I'm a decent mechanic but more hands, more skilled hands, well I wouldn't turn them away." And maybe a proper engineer, like Stark or someone less ego and anxiety driven, but she wasn't going to say that aloud. They had taught her basic mechanics in the academy, and the Rebellion had taught her more when she was on the ground with them, she knew she was good enough to keep a ship running with the right parts, but building something was a bigger and more frightening prospect.

At this point, she would have settled for a droid, but Kenobi didn't need to doubt her skill just yet.

"Absolutely, Master. That's an excellent idea." And really, it was all they could do, but Evaan was relieved to have at least made a decision about it and know she wasn't alone.
