Who: Gwen & Jan
What: Giving the fans a show
When: Later Wednesday
Where: Convention
Rating: Low

The next time Jan was on the convention floor, she made sure to be in her super suit, wanting/wishing to see if anyone would recognize her now. A few people seemed to pick up on who she was, but kept making comments like 'if only you had done the wings! I would have known who you were then!'

"What does that even mean? Don't they know how it works?" She couldn't help but sound a bit huffy as she confided in Gwen, a small pout rising to her lips. "My wings only come out when I shrink down! But I can't do that here!" She thought on it for a moment. "Or can I?" she glanced at Gwen, hoping she'd be able to come up with something that could reason how someone could actually shrink down and grow back to normal size. Everything about this convention seemed normal, except they didn't actually know they existed. They, being superheroes and a bunch of her friends. They seemed to think they were some kind of fictional character that they read or watched in the movies, not an actual person who saved the world. It was a bit weird, but Jan was learning to roll with the punches.

Unless it was an incorrect fact someone was trying to correct her on herself!

"You seem to be doing alright," she said, trying to turn back into her good mood. "I've seen a couple of you walking around and you look great!" There had been small changes here and there, but overall, it seemed Gwen was a fairly popular costume here. "We totally need to take all the selfies of us with people dressed up as our friends! Memories!" Jan practically clapped her hands together as she looked around for their next target.

The first time she walked through the convention halls with America, she'd been a pretty confused. She'd heard of stuff like conventions before but she'd never actually been to one. Once she realized what it was, it made more sense and now that she was going back she intended to explore a lot more. She'd worn her suit before and decided she wanted to wear it again this time, because it did help with keeping her senses from going into overload. And let's face it; some of these people reeked like they were actually repelled from good hygiene.

"They're just too basic to keep up with your technology," she reasoned when Jan huffed over the wing 'inaccuracies' people were slinging at her. Most of her comments were about her hair. It'd taken her a while to get it but apparently the Gwen from wherever Alpha Peter was from had the side of her head shaved. Funnily enough Gwen had been thinking about that but hadn't had the chance to go through with it. So maybe she was destined to meet Peter that way in the future. Maybe.

"I just need a haircut, apparently." She grinned. But it was kind of cool to see people trying to replicate the suit Janet had made for her. She had to stop a couple of people from actually pushing on her shooters when they got a little too close. That would've been a bit tragic.

"Let's find someone. I keep seeing that guy around. Let's go dance with him!" It was some guy in a red suit with a mask that covered his face, but it wasn't a Spider-Person. "He seems like he knows how to have a good time. What's his sign say? Will dance for chimichangas?"

She felt a bit better with Gwen commenting on how basic they were being. Yeah...she was right! If they were real fans, they'd know exactly how it worked! Jan reached out for Gwen's hand and took it, giving it a squeeze. "Guess I'll need to recalibrate my wings and we'll give you a haircut when we get back!" She giggled, already feeling in better spirits. Maybe they could make a dramatic exit later and really show these guys!

"Oooh, dancing superhero? Now that's someone I can get behind!" She laughed, letting Gwen lead her around in search of this masked dancing fiend. She made sure to keep an eye out and she'd point out a few people here and there to make a detour for all the selfies with the two of them.

"I almost feel like we're undercover, seeing what other people think of us," she said after they had taken a picture with a fairly handsome Captain America. He had nothing on the Steve they knew, but he was still pretty cute. Jan couldn't help but watch after him, debating if she should run after him and give him her number. Then again, would it actually work?

"Hey! Wow Spider-Gwen, you look great!" Jan turned to look at the newest person to come up to them and grinned at Gwen. "Yeah, she's the best, right?" She held her hand out, ready to take a picture. "Want me to take a picture for you??" The fan seemed just as eager for it and Jan snapped a few, doing a few fun angles towards the end.

"Thanks!" He took his phone back, scrolling through the pictures she had just taken. "Wow, you've got a good eye!" He looked up, grinning, taking in her own costume. "You look like you could be someone too...what superhero are you?" Jan couldn't help but purse her lips together and held her hands out to sort of display herself.

"The Wasp! Janet Van Dyne?" The kid looked confused like he was trying to place where he knew her. "But aren't you an old lady?" Jan's mouth dropped open at that comment, but the guy was already walking away as if their conversation hadn't even happened.

"It'd be wrong to use my blasters here, right? I can't use my blasters..."

Gwen was kind of stuck between weirded out and totally flattered by all the attention they were getting. She didn't really like it, but she also kind of did. Back home, so many people hated her. They thought she was a murderer or just an all around menace to society even though she was doing her damnedest to help and to redeem herself. Thankfully her father knew the truth now, so he didn't hate her. Or at least, Gwen hoped he didn't. He at least knew what was going on now. That was better than him hating Spider-Woman.

To be among people who thought she was cool, who liked her, among others who were trying to emulate her by creating costumes and styling their hair like her was kind of a relief. It sort of validated what she was doing, made her feel like all the bullshit was worth it. She had to be careful not to let it all go to her head the way it had when she first became Spider-Woman. Right now she didn't feel arrogant. She just felt better, and that was nice. Even if it was also a little weird.

Gwen didn't even know if these people were real, or what. She was just kind of taking things as they came this time. Although she did get a little huffy when the kid asked if Jan was supposed to be an old lady. She pulled her mask off and called after him. "Sounds like someone needs to read up on their super hero facts, mouth breather! And even when she does get older, the Wasp is a total badass!" She snorted and shook her head. "No, no blasters," Gwen said, and placed a comforting hand on Jan's back. "We don't want to end up getting arrested." If that was possible. Again, she had no idea what was real and what wasn't at this point.

"Come on. Let's go find some cool stuff to take back to town. I want to see if I can find something for Peter and for Mr. Stark. And maybe a few other people." She had an idea for cheering Jan up, too, but she was going to hold off on it for a little bit and surprise her when the time was right.

Gwen's hand reminded Jan that these were civilians; ignorant maybe, but non-dangerous and not the enemy, overall. She clenched and unclenched her hands, taking a breath and looking at her friend with a smile. "Right, no jail time. It'd take away from the fun!" And just like that, she was back to the task at hand. If there was anything that Gwen could have said to swing her mood, it was shopping.

It wasn't like her usual type of shopping, but Jan happily followed after Gwen, glancing at the tables around them. "Pete and Tony?" Jan glanced over at her, thinking about what Pete had asked her to customize. "Wait, which Pete are we talking about? And I'm guessing older Tony if you called him Mr. Stark." She couldn't help but laugh, thinking of her Tony as a Mr. Stark.

They had stopped by a table that was covered with boxes and boxes of comic books. Jan picked one up, flipping through the pages, grinning. "OMG, look!" She held open a page, displaying a couple of their friends, fighting various monsters and aliens. This was weird. Tony had shown her a few when he had first brought her to this place, but it was still a lot to wrap her head around. "Have you found any stories about yourself? Or weirdly enough, stories that you remember doing?"

One of the things that Gwen had realized and accepted when she'd been there with America before was that she needed to just embrace the fact that people liked her in this setting. She might not understand it, and it might not even be her they liked, but some other version of herself, but she needed to just roll with it and be grateful and have a good time. As weird as it all was it, it was kind of fun being immersed in a place where they were all celebrated in some way.

"Both of the elders," Gwen replied, and laughed. Sometimes it was hard to remember that there were multiple versions of themselves and that she needed to differentiate between them when she talked. Peter had become like a big brother to her whom she trusted with her whole heart. That was no easy feat, all things considered, especially given her unfortunate and tragic history with not one but two Peters. Mr. Stark was the father figure she was sorely missing and she looked up to him immensely. She had such an up and down relationship with her real father, Captain Stacy, who she loved so much and missed terribly, but his struggles with her being Spider-Woman strained their relationship to the point that she really had to just shut him out. Mr. Stark was filling a void without likely even realizing it.

"I haven't read them, but I'm admittedly pretty curious. Well, about some stuff." There was a lot she didn't want to read because it was pretty sad, but she was definitely interested. "I wonder if there's stuff written that hasn't happened for us all yet. Like, stuff we haven't experienced but it's written as though it would some day. That's kind of crazy to think about. Talk about a mind trip."

It was a little crazy, but they did crazy pretty well. At least in terms of accepting it and wanting to know more, which was exactly how Jan felt at the moment. "I got yelled at the last time I started to read these," she mused, glancing through the various stacks of comics. "But I'm sure we could find something! I mean...I'm kind interested? And maybe we can find a way to go back home!" Which was good, right? The more Jan thought about it, the more upset she seemed by the idea. Sure, she wanted to see her friends again, to know that they were ok, but she had also made some friends here. What would happen to them if they all went back home? Were they going back to good situations? Would they be able to win with the information they could gather from this place?

It suddenly felt like a mission to try and collect as much intel as they could. "Most these places take credit cards, right?" She grinned, already expecting a rather large haul back to Starklandia.

A table caught her eye and she wandered over, looking at the various sketches an artist had displayed for sale. "Do you do commissions?" Jan asked, admiring how cute and lil some of her friends where. She saw a Steve, a Tony, a Pete, even a Carol. But no her. Maybe she could have something made and hang it on her wall back home. Or in her current room...whatever they were calling it at the moment.

She motioned for Gwen to come over, pointing at a picture of Tony and Pete together. "What do you think? Father's Day gift?"

"Yeah, maybe so," she agreed. Gwen definitely had a love-hate thing going on with the whole idea of going back home. Of course she wanted to; she needed to get back on her path to redemption and prove to others she wasn't the bad guy. She needed to make things right with the world and show everyone that Spider-Woman wasn't a villain or a murderer. But going back meant leaving behind what she'd found in this township. Gwen knew she'd always choose the greater good over her own needs but damn, it'd be hard to leave behind the people she'd met and grown to care for since arriving in town. For someone who'd sworn off friends, Gwen really had formed some wonderful bonds. She could travel through the multiverse to look for them, maybe, but there were no guarantees she'd find them. That was a troubling thought.

Money was always a touch and go sort of thing for her but luckily she did have some. Enough to get a few more things she hadn't gotten when she was there before, anyway. "Yeah, most of them have a swiper card reader thingamawhatsis." She motioned like she was swiping an invisible card.

Gwen moved over closer to look at the sketches Jan had her eye on and saw the one she pointed out. "Yeah! I was thinking about getting something like that for Mr. Stark and for Peter, separately. Only I wanted to make something with the Legos for Mr. Stark and see if I can find a drawing for Peter." She wondered if she could get one of her and Peter together. Or better yet; her, Peter, and Peter. And she wanted to make a Lego scene out of figures of herself, Peter, Peter, and Mr. Stark to give to the latter.

Swiper card thingamawhatsis! That was all Jan had to hear to get the attention of the artist and hand over her credit card to take the picture home with her. She hesitated once Gwen had said she was thinking of getting the same thing and held her card up just as the vendor had gone to reach for it. "You don't mind if I get this one? I don't wanna take your idea or anything like that!" But her idea of Legos sounded really cool and she nodded her head enthusiastically.

"Omigod, a little Lego figure of you guys!" She practically squealed as she tried to picture it and it was too cute for words. "A little Ironman, a little Spiderman and you!" She was distracted as the artist cleared his throat and she grinned. "I'll come back for it," she offered, setting the picture down and tucking her card away. "I think we need to make the Lego's our number one priority! I mean, they've gotta have a table up here, right?" She glanced around as if hoping one would just magically spring up and be readily available to them. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case but she was sure they could find something.

"C'mon, we can come back for the artwork!" She linked her arm through Gwen's again, wishing they might be able to go up high and scout the convention that way. But she had a feeling they'd get some unwanted attention from it despite the brilliant idea. "Do you think there are versions of us here, without powers? What do you think we're like? The same?" Jan liked to think a lot of her personality had to do with herself, but when she really thought about it, her powers were closely linked to it as well. She didn't know who she would be without the ability to shrink and grow, to fly. What kind of activities would she have gotten into to let out all that pent up energy?

Gwen wasn't terribly worried about them both getting drawings. They'd look different regardless, so she didn't think it'd be a problem. The more the merrier; at least, that was her perspective. They'd figure it out! For now, Legos! And maybe some corndogs if they had them. Gwen had been seriously missing the Dollar Dog something fierce. While she doubted her favorite eatery existed in this world, surely they'd have something as basic as a corndog she could buy. Right? Right???

Jan's desire to go up high and scout around wasn't hers alone. Gwen definitely would've benefited from slinging a web up to the ceiling to pull herself up to get an overall view of the place. She didn't need her Spider senses to tell her that wouldn't be the greatest idea, though. While some people might think it was cool, it'd lead to a lot of questions she was definitely not trying to answer right now. Jan shrinking to fly around and scout around was probably in that same line of not-the-best-of-plans.

"It's definitely possible," Gwen said. "I know there are at least two of 'me' in other worlds who don't have powers. I mean, they didn't. They both got killed, so unless I guess you traveled to one of those worlds and went back in time they'd be alive and powerless. Maybe. The multiverse is really confusing." She made a little face. "But it'd be cool if there was another Jan and Gwen walking around here. Cool, kinda weird, but cool.

Jan couldn't help but laugh at the face that Gwen made, only knowing the confusion of multiverses so well. It was nice to know someone else that understood too, despite some of her friends from the academy being there as well. It was a kind of bond she could share with someone that wasn't from her own world. Not that they didn't already have enough connections as it was, but it never hurt to have another.

Jan's stomach rumbled and she looked at Gwen. "I think our adventure is taking us in a separate direction," she said, looking around for food. Because there had to be, right? Delicious, fried food hopefully. One thing she could say for Starklandia was it certainly made them eat and work out right. She wouldn't mind a day of binge eating to make up for all the lost time.

"What's your favorite snack food?" Jan felt ready to do one of her 'let's order one of everything' and was hoping Gwen felt up to the task at hand.

Having connections with people, Gwen was coming to realize, really was something she absolutely needed. She'd been isolating herself from everyone she cared about because she thought it was the safest way to keep them alive. It made for a very lonely existence but that was a price she thought she could pay so long as it kept everyone else from being put in danger. But after her conversation with Alpha Peter, Gwen had come to sort of realize that she did need those connections and people she cared for around her because that was a constant reminder of why she put that mask on and fought so hard to try to redeem herself to those who'd branded her a murderer. Being in this place -- Starklandia, not the convention -- it made it easier. She'd found people to connect with, and they got it. They understood the hardships, the loneliness, the hero's journey, essentially. Jan had become someone Gwen abso-tively pos-olutely needed in her life. That was a friendship she wasn't willing to let go.

"Oh man, if I had the materials I'd make a sign like that guy over there," she pointed to a guy in a red and black full body costume that at first reminded her of Spider-Man, but quickly saw how different it actually was. His sign read, Will dance for chimichangas. "Only I'd do it for corndogs. All the corndogs. Please feed me the corndogs. Seriously I could eat like a dozen and keep going. Pretty sure my friends back home were about to have an intervention about my addiction to them."

Gwen had mentioned corndogs before and Jan couldn't help but beam. It seemed like her love for corndogs rivaled Jan's own for hot dogs! "Gwen, you and I are just meant to be!" She linked her arm through her friends once more, the excitement of their similarities making Jan want a closer physical connection to her. "Did I ever tell you one of my favorite foods are hot dogs?" She thought about it for a moment. "Or maybe not one of my favorite foods, but one of my favorite foods to do an eating contest for?" She beamed, happy to brag about her eating habits, despite how disgusting it might seem to other people.

"There should totally be a corndog eating contest...I figure the outside is just as much bread as the bun!" But she was determined to find her friend the food she craved. Jan to the rescue! "If corndogs are what you want, we shall find them!" She glanced at her friend. "Have you tried leaving the convention? Like, going outside to find food out there?" The last time they had ventured into a normal looking world, it had turned out to be fairly creepy and she was hoping they wouldn't have to battle their way back to Starklandia. But, then again, they had made an awesome team and Jan would be happy to fight alongside her again. Besides, what was better than food and few explosions?

"Feel like venturing out?"

Gwen had to admit; being around Jan just kind of instantly put her in a better mood and higher spirits. That wasn't to say she was a regular Debbie Downer, but she wasn't always happy-go-lucky. She definitely had her brooding moments. Around Jan, however, she felt far lighter and even more confident that she could handle whatever was going on around her. Case and point, those creepy ass mannequins they were faced with when they went shopping.

"Girl, we are two peas in a pod." She was totally on board for there to be a corndog eating contest. Surely between the two of them, one of them would win it. Her question about departing from the convention brought her out of her thoughts of being surrounded by a pile of corndogs and just diving in to devour them. Damn, she was hungry. "Huh? Oh, well that hadn't actually occurred to me but now that you mention it, that might be a good idea. If this place had a Dollar Dog outside, man, that would be the best." Not likely, but a Spiderling could hope.

"Let's see if we can find a way to blow this Popsicle stand."
