Steve liked the fresh air, he hadn't got a chance to enjoy it in Wakanda, hadn't got a chance to do much except what had been done. Then like the dust in his hands it had all slipped away, reality and earth did as well. At first he'd been alone, he'd had time to explore everything by himself, had slept and eaten and there had been days of that kind of echoing quiet. It gave him time to think, this hadn't been part of his plan. He'd cleared out a house, put together a tool kit from things he'd found around. The tools had needed some care but worked well for his basic needs.

Once he'd seen to cleaning, washing windows inside and out, then it was building up firewood. Steve must have spent an entire day taking apart dead trees, carrying the stores into the square. It was good, he didn't think too much then, just that it might get cold, there might be more people.

And there were more people, strangers who appeared much the same as he had and Steve tried to give them space, be welcoming and yet not threatening. He wasn't sure how well it was working. But he'd decided that usually the best way to make peace and the like was through someone's stomach. Which is what had lead him to taking a little walk down to where the trees got closer together and twigs cracked under foot.

He never wanted to kill something, but he also understood foodchains and the like. The large boar hadn't stood much chance against the impact of his shield and it was quick at least. The rest of it took longer and Steve didn't have a lot of experience but it wasn't the first time he'd butchered something so he got there. Steve carried it back to the square, where he'd already lit the fire under the metal rack he'd dragged out from behind a shed was scrubbed clean. A spit would be better, but that kind of machinery wasn't his forte. Coals and what looked to be an old metal gate would do fine.

It was practically a barbecue.

Practically a barbecue, sure. It looked like one completely to Tony, who had (beyond a meeting with Janet Van Dyne who was most certainly his new best friend) been laying very low the past day. He'd found some more water and a house that had been empty (like most things seemed to be) and bunked down to maybe catch up with the bone deep tired feeling that had been sitting on his back for days on end now.

Sleeping hadn't seemed like a good choice when he'd been drifting in space, worried he'd run out of air. Tony had been adamant that he wasn't going to die in his sleep if he was going to die at all.

So. He'd slept here.

Food though, he hadn't really had time for after the water had made him feel sickeningly full. But now? Now he smelled it, and from his window he could see the fire, the silhouetted shoulders of someone so familiar that it'd nearly made his heart stop.

He left the house he'd not-quite claimed and wandered over, uncertain but not willing to show it. "I see you found a grocery store." Those didn't exist here, but it didn't matter because from close up, Tony knew his eyes hadn't tricked him. Those shoulders were more than familiar. Steve was achingly, hauntingly familiar.

It had been a very, very long time.

It didn't take long for the meat to get going, juices dripped onto coals and the smell traveled through the town. There was a garden and some things growing, fruit trees as well if you looked hard enough, but a hot meal smelled a certain way. Steve had found some plates and cutlery in one of the empty houses and set that up on a table, so it was rustic, but not too rustic. Leftovers wouldn't keep and Steve hoped people would come and share, or at least take later what he'd leave.

He heard someone coming and he'd been about to turn, about to greet them when they spoke. There were some voices that stuck, stayed with you forever no matter how long it had been and that there was one of them. Steve froze facing the fire for a beat and then another, like he wasn't quite sure. It seemed too impossible, perhaps he'd been alone too long and had descended into madness.

But he turned and there was madness looking just as uncertain as he felt.

"I forgot milk, mind picking some up later?" Steve asked when he found his voice.

Of all the people he'd expected Tony Stark was not even on the list of possibilities. It had been a quiet and introspective couple of days so to be suddenly confronted with him was a lot, close to too much. "Hungry?"

Admittedly, Tony felt a little like madness, like something had gotten all jumbled and wrong out there in space and he wasn't sure how to make it right again. There was time, he figured. The water and sleep had helped, he didn't doubt whatever giant animal Steve had strung up over that fire might, too.

The pause was telling, admittedly, but then everything seemed to tilt spectacularly into the surprising when Steve actually made a joke. A laugh bubbled out of him, weird, like maybe he'd forgotten how. He hated that, but there it was. "Yeah. And bread. Why do I bother even making a list?"

Steve looked a little bit like shit. Tony wasn't sure it'd be wise saying so.

He chewed his bottom lip, glanced over at the smoking meat and fire. "I think I'm starving, actually. Maybe literally. When did you get here?" Both of those topics were easier than Hey, I know it's been over a year, how's all.... that going?

It wasn't the time for jokes, but it also wasn't not the time. It was all thrown off axis and Steve had no more answers now than he'd had when he got here, actually less because he'd ruled some things out. The laugh was bordering on hysterical and Steve could relate. "At least I remembered dinner."

Tony actually looked like he might be starving, gaunt and a little sunken and Steve beckoned him forward. "A few days maybe?" Steve said thinking about it now as he grabbed a plate. Some parts weren't cooked yet like the belly and shoulder, but there was plenty of good parts that were and Steve cut off what came easily away from the bone.

A few singed fingertips later and Steve set the plate on the table in front of him. "There's apples in the bag, carrots and beans in this one," he added before popping the first piece of meat into his mouth. It maybe needed seasoning, but after a few days of not much on a super soldier stomach it tasted darn good. "What about you? How long?" Steve asked once he'd swallowed.

Sleep had been the obvious choice after he'd arrived, and spent more time than he'd been willing to admit hoping that on the other side of some door he opened he'd find not just some other empty house waiting for it's own squatter but a path back to the world he was meant to have walked into after he'd stepped into the rift between dimensions. It was too depressing to do much more than that though and when the idea of sleeping rather than facing this new reality he'd found himself in presented itself to him Peter couldn't help but take it.

Of course waking up and finding that things hadn't been magically put right by a few hours of restless sleep was a kind of betrayal that Peter should have seen coming and yet it still sat heavy in the pit of his stomach. He'd explored a little bit, maybe he'd run into Barton somewhere around here, unless that was some sort of fever dream too, if not well he'd have a better idea of what they were facing down here.

Eventually he wandered his way toward the center of town - was this a town? It was something. Finding something of a gathering taking place. Everyone always felt better knowing they weren't the only one dealing with some shit - that they'd started coming out of hiding wasn't all that surprising. And well there was the potential of food here, so you know maybe he'd die another day.

Yeah, who could say no to a picnic? Especially one with the sort of deceny to not bring potato salad, as if there was anyone in the entire world who actually liked it.

No one liked it.

Although after a day of walking around like a moron and wondering what berries in the bushes nearby were edible, Clint had to admit probably he would have eaten it. And Lucky certainly would have.

But meat was better, and Clint had been happy to show up out of the blue, dog by his side, and take a serving all while offering Steve (multiple) thumbs ups and apparently having to introduce himself because ... because Jan was a baby here and Steve didn't know this version of him, or something. Awkward.

Speaking of awkward, he wasn't sure the Peter Parker he was staring at was quite the one he knew either. He looked a little more run down than Clint recalled, but maybe that was normal here. Bad shit happened and that was enough to make anyone look tired, and like they might have needed a shave a few days prior.

So. He just kept on staring.

This was definitely the Twilight Zone, Peter was convinced of that the second he started seeing people he might have known but weren't quite right. He'd seen enough of that over the last week to know when it was happening again.

He'd already tried humming the theme song earlier with no luck, so he'd grabbed something to eat and put a little bit of distance between himself and the others who were gathering and talking.

It wasn't exactly a cheeseburger, but considering the alternative he wasn't about to complain - he'd save that for a few days in.

"You gonna call me out on my table manners or what, my dude?" He asked when the feeling of eyes on him grew to be too much to go on ignoring, turning to look at a guy who was familiar enough but just wrong enough that Peter hadn't felt the need to get close - but the eyes thing, that itched.

"There's not really a table here," Clint pointed out, and frankly his face was kinda juicy with meats and it probably wasn't a good look but he didn't much care because hungry came first. Plus, knowing his luck, if he went off to use a leaf as a napkin it'd end up being the poisonous itchy rashy kind.

He really wasn't meant for all this roughing it, stuff. Not even when someone else was out there catching and cooking the meat.

Only Clint Barton could suck at barbecues.

"So. No? Anyway. Er. Pete, right?" They'd done all that talking earlier and Clint had just assumed he'd known the dude. That was awkward.

This. Was. BORING. After her initial adventure with Tony, Jan hadn't really done any more on her own. She'd wander around here and there, but everything seemed to be empty. Her hope of finding any sort of retail or food establishment had been dashed and she had kept to her room, mostly. What else was there to do?

She had fiddled with her phone a little, wondering if she might be able to modify it. But what would it get her? Unless it could magically bring back Twitter and Instagram, she didn't really know what else she could do, other than bother Tony.

And she was already doing that every other hour. Really, she needed to give her phone's to this new Tony, see if he could salvage any of the tech in her old phone he had made her. She pulled it out, looking at the blank screen. If they got this one operational, would she be able to call SOS? Would anyone be around to hear it?

As the panic started to crawl up her throat, she stood up, pushing open the window to let in some fresh air. Breathe, breathe. Alright, refocus. Positive. She was alive. Check. Tony was here and alive. Check. There seemed to be other people here so maybe they could band together and figure something out. Check. Something smelled delicious like roasted meat...

Jan sniffed the air, her stomach growling as she did so. If there was ever a time to investigate, now seemed pretty good. Hopefully, this was another nice person who would be willing to share some of their food. She'd repay them with her company...that seemed an even deal, right?

Kamala was bored. She hated being bored. There was nothing to punch or to study and no internet which meant no fanfiction or fansites or anything. She was just grateful that she had her DS with her and that it seemed to be working, for now at least. She was hesitant to use it more than she absolutely had too as there didn't seem to be any electricity or batteries here which was outrageous!

Trust her, she had looked.

So she had instead taken to exploring the town. There had been absolutely nothing around. She had been tempted to explore the strange building at the edge of the town but had thought it best to do that with something. Being constantly attacked at the Academy had taught her some caution.

As she approached the town center, she spotted someone familiar and sped up to reach them. "Jan! Wasp!" she called out stretching her body so she could reach her friend in a couple of steps before shrinking back down to her normal size again.

Jan turned at the call of her name, her heart skipping when she saw Kamala make her way towards her. "KAMALA!" She ran over, practically running into her friend as she stretched to shorten the distance. She laughed, giving her a hug.

"O.M.G. I'm so happy you're here!" She felt relief swell through her as she knew at least one of her friends was safe; well, one of her friends that were from her own world!

"When did you get here?? What was the last thing you remember?" That seemed to be the typical greeting nowadays.

"Just like half an hour or an hour ago?" Kamala responded still grinning like mad. Jan's energy was captivating and Kamala while an introvert could be very out going at times in the right situation. Discovering one of her best friends was in this strange place was certainly one of those times.

"That stupid Armour War we had when all those other Iron Man's were evil and attacked with Crimson Dymano. Why do you ask? Are we all coming from different times as well as places? That only happens in fanfic!" Kamala asked wide eyed.

Captain's log stardate who-the-f knows. I woke up to day two of weirdness and still no idea what's really going on. Ate some berries yesterday and didn't puke, thinking of going back for some more. Also wondering what the hell I'm going to do. Are we actually stuck here? How the hell are we going to survive? Kate turned on her bed so she wasn't facing the wall, the light from outside shining in her face. She squinted, sitting up and stretching. Alright, so maybe she was sleeping too much. But she didn't know what other options there were at the moment.

Besides, it was an easy escape than to overthink everything else.

Except...something seemed different today. What was it? Her stomach answered for her and she realized something smelled delicious. Not five-star restaurant, but it definitely smelled like meat. And meat seemed like a step up from berries.

Time for another adventure she thought, pulling on some clothes over her purple bodysuit. The ones she had found in the dresser weren't exciting, but they would do. She didn't even want to think about laundry at the moment. So she followed the smell of meat, wondering if she should stop by and grab Clint. Although, knowing him, he was probably already there, asking for seconds.

Clint had arrived earlier that morning and had quickly taken to sulking on the roofs of the town. He had as much information as he could get from the network and now was observing the area. He hadn't seen anyone he recognised yet but that didn't mean they weren't here.

He also still had plenty of questions and nowhere near enough answers to them. He hoped Natasha was alright as well as the others.

He had been perched on the top of the building he had been assigned to live in, watching silently before he decided to enter it to scout it out. Before he could do so, the scent of cooking meat wafted towards him, causing his stomach to growl. Padding silently across the roofs as best as he could he followed the smell to the town center where he had arrived.

Kate had snuck into the town center and felt her mouth start to water as she saw the cooking meat. OMG, it felt like FOREVER since she had eaten something! She tried not to think about what kind of animal it was or how sanitary it could be eating it in the wilderness like this...or would it be more healthy because, you know, authentic organic? Either way, she glanced around before snagging a piece for herself.

"Ouchouchouchouch," she bounced it between her hands, blowing on it as well. She was beginning to realize how much she had taken for granted before coming here.

A shadow caused her to look up and squint, as she caught someone running across the roofs. Damn, she knew she should have brought her bow. She shoved the piece of meat in her mouth, regretting it as she felt it burn her tongue. How long was that gonna last?

She crouched behind a tree and watched as the man made his way down from where he had been running. There was something familiar about him, but she couldn't put her finger on it. She wanted to observe him a bit more before making herself known.

Clint would have preferred to have stayed up on the roofs but food was needed and given what he had seen of the place so far... He wasn't going to turn down this opportunity. He spotted a couple of familiar faces - Steve and Tony - for which he was grateful for but he was weary of the ones he didn't recognise.

Still he was somewhat grateful at how anti-technology this place seemed to be given recent events. CoughTonycough though at least they had saved the day again even if the events were catastrophic. He didn't regret his decision to retire, especially with the birth of Nathaniel which... Well Laura would hopefully believe he had no choice in turning up here.

As he landed lightly on the ground, he could feel the eyes of someone watching him. He could sense them but not see them which raised his hackles. Reaching up behind him he pulled out an arrow before silently waiting to see if he could spot any movement.

It was the smell that got Peter's attention initially. He hadn't had meat in days by that point, maybe even longer if he'd actually spent any time 'dead' and catching the scent of it when the breeze shifted had his stomach rumbling. The vegetables he and Dick had found were fine, but Peter still had the desire to eat like his stomach was a bottomless pit. He was a growing boy after all. Maybe. He still wasn't sure what effect getting turned to dust had on his body and his growth and all the rest of it.

It hadn't dampened his hunger at least. A hunger that had him quickly forgetting any possible paranoia he likely should have had given the way things had been going since he woke up there.

He didn't bother to change into his suits, instead he slapped on his web shooters and took to the rooftops, occasionally bouncing and flipping as he ran in the direction of the scent. Maybe it was the possible promise of food, maybe it was just him feeling like he was himself again, but he swore he felt stronger, maybe even more graceful than he'd been in a long time. He was only mostly sure it was in his head, but he did land several great flips. Even the ones where he didn't land so great were great to him.

They got him closer to food, that was always great.

He landed a particularly good backflip when he reached the square, keeping himself to the edge when he landed. He did have a little sense, or at least he remembered what Mr. Stark had said to him about planning, so he watched the others for a moment. Getting his eyes off the food had been hard but he managed, eyes moving from person to person until they stopped and refused to move on. He was behind the guy but he swore he knew that stance, that build and height. He'd been looking up to the man since he was little, even before he saved his life.

There was no doubt in his mind of who he was.

He moved closer, resisting the urge to run up and hug him. Instead, he called out, feeling strangely anxious. "Mr. Stark?"

Tony wasn't going to take up all of Steve's time over here. The two of them, they had things they needed to talk about eventually, but they'd waited more than a year as it was so what was another night or few weeks or months? Maybe they'd forget about it, completely.

He knew, probably, he should have been socializing. There were more people here. Jan was over there talking to a girl he'd never seen before. Some blonder, scruffier version of Clint was talking to someone equally as scruffy, and more people were showing up -- all the while Tony'd thought that there'd been practically no one here at all. But being social? It just wasn't something he had in him right now. So he just nibbled at the apple Steve had passed over, savoring the flavor of it. It was ridiculous as hell, but it sort of felt like he'd forgotten things could be sweet. One bout with death and the taste of ash in his mouth that he was almost certainly only imagining now, and he'd gone about as dramatic as he could possibly be.

Which, of course, made this the absolute best time for him to hear that voice. Those words. No one else. No one else said it that way, and Tony was whirling around in surprise -- expecting nothing, nothing at all, because Tony had offered lies and false promises and he didn't deserve-- "Pete."

The apple was dropped, forgotten completely.

This was usually the part in movies where the music swelled and there would be a lot of slow-motion running, plus tears and hugs, or at least that was how it was in the movies May and Uncle Ben used to watch together. He remembered playing with his tinker toys while they watched them, thinking adults were silly and sappy. Now though, well, he could live with a little sappy. He could live with sappy mostly because he was alive again and face to face with the man who had been there when he crumbled to dust.

So there was no music and Peter couldn't let himself move in slow motion, but the rest of it seemed right. He didn't launch himself at his mentor but he quick walked until he closed the space between them and threw his arms around him. Mr. Stark was real and solid, so at least he wasn't seeing things and it gave him some hope that Dick had been right about this not being some kind of limbo or other afterlife. Tony Stark couldn't die. He was larger than life, too important to let something like death claim him, Peter decided as he hugged him as tight as he dared. Almost as tight as he had on Titan when he'd been so terrified of dying.

Peter didn't want to think about that. He especially didn't want to think about Mr. Stark's reaction to that.

"I- I don't know how I got here." He started. "One minute I was- The next I was here. I don't know what happened. I don't know where I am. I still have the suits. Back at the house I claimed. I- I'm sorry."

Oh, sure, Sirius already knew someone who could go around fighting animals and winning before cooking them for dinner (and maybe he could even do it himself if he was desperate enough), but when Regulus did it, it came with a side of contempt. And while that was probably well reasonable, considering, it didn't mean Sirius had to like it.

Not that he was sure that he'd like whatever was happening up here either, but everything smelled good even from a distance and Sirius was always both curious and social, so he saw absolutely no reason not to check it out. Mind, he had his wand in his pocket in case of emergency and wasn't fully open to the idea of trusting anyone he came across.

It was hard not to be paranoid in a place like this, full of questions and no answers.

He stepped close to the fire, peeking at the animal cooking there and feeling relieved it wasn't any kind of deer this time. "Wotcher?" He asked of the man poking at and turning the meat -- big guy, Sirius noted. Big shoulders. Little waist. Somber looking. That seemed to be something of a trend. "This a public event?"

Ale. It had taken a dwarf - one with definite alcoholic tendencies, but that was not important neither now or then - to open her up to a world of pubs, bars, and ale. She’d hated the taste at first, but Oghren’s company had made sure that only the finest of ales had come to pass muster. Unfortunately, moving away from Fereldan borders meant a clean break with her beloved Brakien Brew. Ales turned into harder stuff, and while some of it was barely drinkable, she was a good sport. Alcohol brought people together and loosened up even the stubbornest of tongues. Especially once she'd found herself in lands far beyond the reach of the Blights, it had turned out to be invaluable.

Turned out that even there, they knew the language of gold. Gold was exchanged, a jug pushed into her hands - simple enough. she moved away from the counter, and tried to go back to her table, where others were waiting to have their tongues loosened.

But the world shifted soon enough; the pub's dark, candle-lit interior made way for daylight and a town square that was unfamiliar to her, and annoyingly [...] something. Not Orlesian, or Fereldan. It was something new. And it certainly did a grand job of making her look entirely out of place. Her armor, tarnished and dinged, certainly didn't help. Neither did the sword, or the tan leather backpack slung from her shoulder, which was filled to the brim with herbs and potions.

She took her time checking out the crowd in front of her. Some of them were looking at little boxes in their hands - why, she had no clue - others were lost in conversation, and others were eating. Roasted meat. Her stomach rumbled in kind- she ignored that, thank you very much - and scanned the crowd. No weapons. No alcohol. But relative safety as a concept was laughable, so [...] Fuck it.

She stepped closer, and put the jug down on the first stable surface she found. There. All this gathering needed was cups.

It wasn't the first time America had found herself in a place that she couldn't kick her way out of, sure around this point she'd have expected Peggy Carter to show herself, or maybe Madam Masque to show herself and explain what was happening and exactly how she was going to get out of this, or at least which ass she had to kick to get herself home.

But no one had jumped out at her to explain any of this, and though she'd seen some others around the small town they all seemed to be just as lost as her.

At least until she found a sort of gathering and the smell of food. If there were answers to be had, they'd probably be somewhere around here. The woman in armor caught her attention first, she didn't look like she was out for a fight as much as she looked like America, like she had found this gathering and decided to make the most of it.

"Hey, you know what's going on here?" She asked as she approached.

Welp. This was all very interesting. After meeting other!Clint, Kate felt like she was ready for anything this place had to throw at her. Would there be another her arriving? Maybe. Would they be besties? Definitely. Could they figure out a plan to try and escape? Probably not. So really, it didn't matter how many strange things happened, they were still stuck here. There HAD to be a way out. Maybe she just wasn't thinking about it in the right way.

After eating enough of the meat to make her stomach feel full, Kate decided to explore the town square a bit, peeking in windows in hopes of finding something useful. It seemed like her Clint knew what he was talking about; this village seemed pretty deserted.

She was just passing another window when some movement caught her attention in the glass. She looked at the reflection and a familiar spring of beautiful curl's made her stop in her tracks.

"America?" She turned to hurry after her.

"AMERICAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Before she could have a moment to really catch what was happening, Kate found herself throwing herself at her in a wild embrace.

She'd spent a little time at the gathering but wasn't really getting the answers she wanted so America was going to check out the town a little more on her own, she'd just been ready to kick off when she heard an all too familiar voice that stopped her in her tracks.

She had only enough time to stop and see that it was actually her favorite archer, before she found her arms full of her very best friend. She squeezed Kate tight twirling her around, the two of them rising off the ground for a moment, feeling relief for the first time since she'd found herself there.

"Kate!" She said setting them both down on the ground again, "Please tell me you didn't set this up just to get a little time with me, chica." She huffed shaking her head at the very idea of it. This wasn't exactly Kate's MO but you never knew.

"Well, it HAS been some time since I saw you." She grinned, pulling back to give her a punch in the shoulder. "But no, this isn't me." The excitement started to wear off once she realized that America must have been just as trapped as the rest of them. "No...?" She stomped her foot on the ground, already knowing the answer.

At least they were both here. She could be thankful for small graces, especially in their current situation. "You been here long?"
