"I don't know. It was fun, but - overwhelming," Dan admitted, twirling the rose between his fingers. He didn't think anyone had ever given him flowers before - it was a nice gesture, even if he didn't understand the reasoning behind it. He was a washed-up bachelor who had wanted to be left alone, then he wasn't alone, then he'd lost everything again and died for his troubles, when he actually made the decision to let someone in.
So basically, he didn't regret anything involving Abra. He loved her like she was family - in fact, she still was family. But it was just that he wasn't the one people would be rushing into the kissing booth with, provided they had any actual choice in the matter.
"So I guess I needed a break, yeah. I was just going to find a book to take home with me." That was safer than a person. Less heartstrings involved, less complications.
