Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:harry osborn (msm), peter parker (mcu)

WHO: Peter Parker & Harry Osborn
WHAT: Getting a handle on things.
WHERE: Harry's place
WHEN: Feb 7th, afternoon
RATING: T for teenage shenanigans

Peter lands lightly on Harry’s rooftop, bouncing on the balls of his feet. This webbing is a little more complicated to make than his usual formula, given a lack of certain supplies, but from what he’s managed to scavenge, it’s not performing half-bad. Sticking a little (the irony is not lost on Peter, don’t worry) on the first hit, but he’ll brainstorm solutions for the next batch. He’s...not entirely sure why he’s even bothering, if he’s being honest, aside from the fact that it gives him something to do with his time. He certainly doesn’t need the webs - there’s no danger here, and if he wants to building hop, he can just parkour - but there’s a little voice at the back of his head that encourages him to be paranoid. Either way, at least it gives him something to talk about.

Peter sticks a line of webbing to the edge of Harry’s roof and leans down, hanging upside down, to knock on the window. Harry’s easy to be around, Peter’s found, so an invitation to do just that is plenty welcome. Peter doesn’t make friends easily - blame it on the crippling awkwardness - and maybe Peter’s taking advantage of friendship he didn’t earn, that some other Peter worked for, but it’s just...easy. Harry’s never known this him, hasn’t been here as long as the others to see him come and go, and he doesn’t seem keen to press Peter on the difficult things. All admirable qualities, honestly.

Peter knocks on the window, hair hanging down and probably looking ridiculous, shit-eating grin firmly in place. As soon as it opens, he says, “Heard you needed a steady pair of hands on some sensitive tech.”

Harry would never press anyone, let alone Peter, to tell him all their deepest, darkest secrets. As much as he may like to pretend that he's an open book he isn't. As much as he might like to say he told his own Peter everything he hadn't. Some stuff is just too difficult to talk about and, try as he might, Harry has never found the right words to express the way his father made him feel or the doubt in his own abilities, his own decisions, that Norman encouraged. Maybe it made his own anger at his Peter's secrets a little hypocritical but he liked to insist that there was a difference. The information he withheld never hurt anyone but himself.

So, yes, he wasn't about to force this Peter, who obviously had a lot on his plate, to tell him anything at all. It was just easier to let talk when he wanted to, if that ever happened. In the meantime he could be a distraction. Sure, that kind of meant Peter was teasing him but that was actually kind of nice.

For all intents and purposes this Peter was someone new. Sure, he had similarities to Harry's own best friend that just made it easier to be around him but he wasn't Harry's. He was someone else entirely and Harry was pretty terrible at making friends. Real friends. He was a rich kid which meant he got more attention for his money and the stuff he had than anything else. It also meant people treated him differently. Being teased and laughed at was normal.

Hearing the knock on his window, Harry heads towards it. The last time his own Peter had tried to lurk outside of his window Harry had activated the security system on him. It was a dick move but he didn't really like Spider-Man. He also didn't realize the two were one in the same. Opening the window, he took a step back. He expected Peter to just parkour in. He probably should've expected the quip though. Especially with the way the other was smiling. He would've thought about it more if he wasn't focused on how nice it was to see the other teen smile. "You heard right. I'm just not quite sure you're the man for the job, Pete." He laughed after a moment and motioned towards the room. "Shut up and get inside."

Peter could definitely understand that. What's a little shared trauma, right? But the truth of it is, there really is a Lot he's not-so-successfully repressing, so he gets not being able to find the words. Not being able to fully communicate the fear and pain and sheer guilt that kept you up at night, the way Peter could sometimes still feel the grit of Titan's sand under his fingernails, the way his side would twinge and he would flinch if something came out of his peripheral too fast -

The point is, yeah, he gets it. And he's just as happy to be a safe space for Harry as he is to have a safe space with Harry.

It's all in good humor, a ribbing the same way Peter would give anybody else one. He can't help but wonder what the Harry in his world is like. Is it cheating if when he goes back (if he goes back...) to look him up? He wonders if Harry's world has a Ned, an MJ. What are they like, there? Are they all friends? Is Flash still around? The similarities and differences can be kind of crazy, if he thinks about it too hard.

"What, you don't like these hands?" Peter wiggles his fingers, eyebrows rising (or falling, depending on which way you considered up), before taking the offer to flip inside the room. Peter lands lightly on his feet, smiling at Harry's laughter. "Okay, I'll stop. Right after this one, because you left it lying there: I'm absolutely man enough for the job. OKAY, I'm done."

Peter runs a hand back through his hair to smooth it down from the windswept look. "Seriously, though, I've been dying to get my hands on that glider. You're going to be so sick of my questions, I wouldn't blame you if you pushed me back out the window."

If Peter were to ask, Harry would definitely encourage any and all attempts to look this possible other version of himself up. He's sure there's differences between himself and the one that may or may not exist in Peter's world. There's even a possibility that Peter won't actually like or get along with his Harry but the friendship is worth a shot. Harry's pretty sure that this friendship, no matter how fleeting given the circumstances, is worth a shot, too.

He likes the jokes and the teasing. He likes that Peter doesn't just regard him as a stranger or hold back. It makes things feel normal even if this place is far from normal and the two of them are basically strangers. He rolls his eyes as the other teen wiggles his fingers but there's no annoyance in the act. "Shut up.." He doesn't mean it. The last thing he wants is for the teasing or the jokes to stop. "It's way too early in this relationship to be asking if I like your hands." He's still laughing as Peter flips into the room. "You say you're done but I'm not sure I believe you."

He turns then to lead Peter back through the house and down to where he keeps the glider. Inside and out of the elements that might actually mess something up. He would've taken care of it at home, of course, but he wouldn't have minded as much. He worries a little more about just how available resources will be to fix any isssues that might arise here. "Okay, back to the window. I'm shoving you out now." He teases, turning and lifting his hands as if he might actually do it. He doesn't. He doesn't even come close to touching the other before he's shaking his head and walking backwards for a moment. "Pete. I invited you over here for that, exact, purpose. Ask questions. Talk. Give me your opinion on things." He used to collaborate a lot with his own Peter. He misses putting his head together with someone else's to see what they can come up with.

Peter's never one to say no to new friends. He doesn't have many of them, and he really can't imagine there's a universe out there where he does. The friends he does have, while few in number, more than make up for it in depth. Maybe getting to meet his world's Harry gives Peter something to look forward to especially when there's so much he isn't looking forward to. The point is, it's worth hanging out with this Harry while he has him.

"Never took you for a prude, Osborn." It's a complete jest. Peter's never even kissed anybody before, it's all a front. Peter snorts and can't help but laugh a little - alright, Harry's got him there. "A fair point. Scout's honor, though!"

Peter follows Harry deeper into the house; he hasn't been inside most of these places. He arrived here and took up residence in the Stark-Rogers-Stacy household, and like he said, he's not exactly rolling in friends. Peter looks around curiously, taking in the space. It doesn't look as lived in as Tony's house, but then, Peter's room doesn't look terribly lived in yet either. Neither of them have been here that long, comparatively. "Hey! I didn't even get the chance to annoy you yet!"

"You've got to give me the full spec rundown," Peter says eagerly, already bouncing up on the balls of his feet as he looks over Harry's makeshift workstation. He can sympathize with not having the necessary supplies. He swipes some from Tony's stock whenever he needs something specific, like a tool or whatnot that Tony might have collected, but finding the ingredients for his web fluid has been a slow, way more agonizing process than it usually is. "Oh, so it wasn't really for my hands? Good to know."

"I respect myself too much to let you get handsy before the second or third date." Look, he's never kissed anyone either. Harry might be a rich kid who looked good in a suit and had an easier time talking to people but he's yet to have that experience. The teasing is all in good fun and he understands that. He grins and shakes his head but doesn't point out that he's pretty sure those words hold no meaning.

Harry hasn't been over to anyone else's house. He knows where Gwen lives. He knows where the older Peter lives. There's a possibly open invitation to visit either of them that he hasn't acted upon because the older Peter is, well, older. He has a life and Harry pops in to annoy him enough at the newly renamed bar because there's food there. With Gwen... it may have more to do with her living with Tony Stark. He has nothing against Stark. He admires the guy. He's just allowed his father's animosity towards the man to color his perception of things and make him feel strange about trying to talk to either version.

The house really isn't that lived in. The room he sleeps in probably feels closer to being lived in than anything else. So far, he's found the experience of living alone entirely too quiet and too odd. That week with Diego had reminded him that he sort of hates being alone. He doesn't really like the silence and Peter's teasing gave him more than enough incentive to extend an invitation and try to change things. Maybe they can hang out a little more in the future. He likes the idea. Especially if it comes with more of the easy humor. "You probably shouldn't have warned me then!"

He needs to make friends he can swipe tools from or get his own. The makeshift space he has isn't much but it's something. It's better than nothing. He's about to go into detail about his glider, he's excited to, when Peter brings up his hands again and Harry gives him a look before laughing. "No. I think your hands are really nice but it wasn't for them. Well. It wasn't just for them."

"So what you're saying is, I'm getting a second date? And a third?" Peter waggles his eyebrows and hides a laugh. It feels so natural, paling around with Harry. They have more in common than you'd think, at first glance. Peter's sure Ned would love him.

He should come over. The three of them should do something. Were they too old for sleepovers now? Peter didn't care. Maybe it would be easier to sleep with other people in the room, the sound of their breathing, their heartbeats. Or maybe they'd forgo sleep altogether and eat way too much sugar and like, crash at 4 in the morning. Peter has his own hangups with Tony, the survivor's guilt he was reminded of every time he saw his mentor. It's weird, seeing people from all over and knowing that they're not the ones he knows. Not really, anyway.

Peter's not used to the silence either. This place isn't like New York, and while it's not as quiet as Space (much, much too quiet), it's close enough to give him goosebumps, sometimes. "Consider yourself un-warned then."

"My endless wit and charm, then?" Peter circles around the worktable, examining the glider from all angles. "This thing is honestly gorgeous, dude."

Harry both does and doesn't know what to expect with this Peter. He's not the same one that Harry's spent years with but he's still Peter. Harry's the stranger to the other teen who probably doesn't know what to expect when he tosses a joke Harry's way. Harry's easy going though. "Bold of you to assume this isn't our second date." They'd spent time together once before. It hadn't been much or long but they had.

If Peter suggests a sleepover he would definitely agree to it. Weird hangups about Tony Stark or not. The idea of sleeping in a room that isn't too quiet or staying up until they start passing out sort of wins out over all of that. It's too bad there's no internet or Netflix in Starklandia. They could stay up all night streaming terrible movies and making fun of them together. He would suggest his own adult free house but it's probably easier for him to go over there. Peter and Gwen live under the same roof with two other people running around. Being around more people seems better than less for some reason.

"Closer." Harry laughs because, yes. He does appreciate Peter's wit and his charm. "I'm into you for your mind." He says, daring to step closer and gently tap Peter on the forehead. Once. Just once. It's a far cry from the hugs and friendly affection he's used to sharing with his own but it's something. He's quite happy to keep his hands to himself now. Or he would be if Peter didn't make it impossible with that compliment. He smiles as he moves away from Peter and towards the glider. To open it up again and talk, at a mile a minute, about how it works. "The only problem I have with it is how easily I can be knocked off." He says. "It's kinda hard for two people to work together when one of them still has to swoop in and save the day." Whatever fluffier feelings he has about it are firmly locked away because having any version of Spider-Man swoop in to save the day gets old after awhile.

That startled an honest laugh out of him, and Peter grinned at Harry's A+ delivery. Peter could be cripplingly awkward, but with someone he felt comfortable with - or when he put on the mask - this is the side that could come out. It just proved that Harry really was someone from his life that he was able to understand that. "My mistake, I would have cleaned up better if I'd known."

It really is a shame there's no internet, because Peter's kind of been going crazy, over here. Hence the obsession with concocting his web fluid from scraps. Either way, the three of them could probably figure out something to occupy themselves. Peter...doesn't know what he would have done, if he'd shown up here alone. It's both a blessing and a curse that he isn't, in some respects.

"Sapiosexual? Duly noted." Peter laughs and swats playfully at Harry's hand. He's not unused to getting a pat on the back or a flick in the ear - that latter, of course, usually coming from MJ.

"We work together a lot? In your world?" It's been kind of a solo gig for so long now, but the idea of having someone to patrol with wasn't an unwelcome one. "Why aren't your boots locked in, like snowboarder-style?"

Harry hadn't expected to startle any sort of laugh from Peter. He's used to doing it on occasion with his own but, normally, Peter is the one that makes him laugh. He can't help but smile at the sound and feel proud that he's the one who managed to get this Peter to make it. "Somehow, Pete, I doubt you would've." He teases, looking the other over with a judgmental quirk of the eyebrow that he learned from Norman. He's quick to smile again. Quick to show Peter that it's just teasing.

He wants to roll his eyes but Peter's right. He's playfully flirting here. He's teasing Peter about being into him for his mind when his true motives for this get together were more about wanting to reach out. The teasing description isn't wrong. He appreciates intelligence. He's drawn to it. He doesn't dwell on this as Peter swats at his hand, earning a laugh as he pulls his hand back.

"In the begining we used to collaborate on school projects. My dad's really competetive. He was setting up some showcase to pit our schools against each other. We decided to design a few things together to show everyone collaboration was possible. That we didn't have to be rivals and could be stronger together." He says, smiling a little at the reminder. It hadn't worked out but they'd tried. "This teamp up thing is new. We went through some stuff." He's hesitant to talk about it just yet but eventually. Maybe if he can talk to this Peter about the ups and downs he's been through with his own he'll get a better sense of how to deal with his superheroing and his own Harry. "But we came back stronger for it. We decided it would be more fun to patrol together."

He actually had thought about locking the boots into the board during a few initial stages. "Mobility mostly." He says. "When a snowboarder is locked into their board that sort of becomes an issue. I wanted to be able to hop on and off with ease." He says. It had seemed like an important thing and Harry hadn't planned on getting knocked off his glider too much but he had planned on moving around.

"That's - too accurate, I don't like that you know that." Peter teased him right back, pointing an admonishing finger in Harry's direction. "Just for that, who knows. Next time I might show up in a tuxedo. Provided I can find one, but that'll just make it more impressive, right?"

"Yeah, your dad runs Oscorp, right?" He's trying to piece things together from his own universe, but he's never gotten anywhere near Norman Osborn. "That's really cool. Like a science fair with higher stakes. What did you guys design?"

"Ah, yeah." Peter offered a small, sympathetic smile. He understood how that went, boy did he understand how that went. He could tell Harry didn't want to talk about it, and that's, you know, totally fine. Peter has his own baggage. Maybe sometime in the future, but they still barely know each other. "That tends to happen. Some things don't change, I guess. I'm glad you were able to overcome it together, though."

"Could you come up with some sort of magnetism lock, maybe something you can toggle on and off?" Peter ran his thumb against the edge of the board. "Or some way of calling it back to you, you know, in case you do get knocked down."
