WHO: Leia Organa & Jim Hopper
WHAT: Tethering plot hijinks!
WHERE: Hopper’s home.
WHEN: During the plot week.

Leia’s routines had changed more recently, and since Christmas, she hadn’t always woken up alone these days - that had been pleasant enough, so it was less of a shock, to drowsily return to wakefulness with the sense that there was someone else there, in the bed with her. If things had been different, her shock might’ve set in sooner. A lifting grogginess took a moment or two for it all to set in- but there was rather a lot about this situation, that was so very different than it should be than were she waking in her own bed, here in Starklandia. Her senses informed her of this as they became less dulled by drowsiness, the room around her, the difference of the bed, even the smell of the room - none of these were normal for her own, quite familiar room.

As the shock of realisation jolted her into complete wakefulness, Leia sat up suddenly, darting gaze taking in her surroundings, her bewilderment complete as she practically leapt out of bed without any mind to the other person sharing it trying to get some distance between herself - and the other person occupying it, while her brain caught up in trying, and failing to explain how on earth she got- into this room without remembering how. But she didn’t even get to the other side of the room before feeling a sharp, painful tug around her middle, like an invisible force was holding holding her in place, forcing her to maintain only a certain amount of distance.

“What the kriff is going on?” She blurted angrily, defensive, of course. "I don't even remember how I got here." Keeping what distance she could from the bed, finally taking the time to acknowledge the other person currently stuck in this situation with her, hazel eyes practically blazing for confusion and annoyance; not that he was at fault, but this ..wasn’t where she’d gone to sleep.

Hopper's room was nothing more than a place to sleep. He had a few books he'd gathered along the way, and some clothes tucked away in drawers or in the closet, but there wasn't really much of a personal touch to the room. It was just four walls housing a bed that was rumpled more than it was neatly made.

He woke with a start at the sensation of movement beside him, followed by a sharp, undeniable pain when the source of that movement went too far from him. He groaned as he rolled over and pushed himself to sitting up, eyes heavy with desire for sleep even as full wakefullness was hitting him.

"Who...are you?" he asked, indicating he had no idea how she'd gotten here either. Confusion ranked high, at the moment. he could feel it in the air between them.

Leia almost looked affronted by this question who was she? No, what the kriff was she doing here? So there wasn’t a lot of height to her but she squared her shoulders all the same, the former senator, and royal knew how to give herself a sense of presence, hovering near the man. Hopper, right? “More importantly- what am I doing here? This isn’t my room.” It was an assumption not, that anything untoward had happened, but that he might be more clued in. Somehow? Despite his attempt to indicate the later.

Thankfully, she’d slept in a decent pair of pajamas - still with confusion Leia gingerly stepped away, slowly - the pressure of the invisible line threatened and she stopped before that painful tug yanked her back.

“And ..why can’t I leave?” Oh. Was this going to be one of those things? One of those things that happened here, the weird, unexplained, ridiculous things?

Hopper had, from time to time, gotten so drunk he didn't remember anything that happened before he woke up with a blistering headache. This was not one of those times. Sure, he'd had a drink or two the night before. But he hadn't passed out drunk. And he was pretty sure he hadn't brought this woman home.

He shook his head. "No, it's my room," he informed her. It wasn't much, but it was his. "I don't know why you can't leave. This is fucked up." He had no issue swearing in front of a woman, even one trying to appear regal and important like it seemed she was.

"I'm as baffled by all of this as you are."

As much as Leia was ready to demand she be given answers, determined to maintain her stance that he had some idea what was going on, given she’d ended up somewhere belonging to this man; as the confusion, and impossibility of the situation continued - five feet or so, seemed the limit to their distance - something familiar settled in her mind.

And deep down she just knew better. Starklandia was an odd place to begin with, given it’s tendencies toward abducting people at random - but it also brought gifts, and sometimes strange occurrences along with that. There’d been strange weather, a week or so where Leia had been turned into a child, and a terrible bout of flu amongst residents, striking at random without any link between exposure and infection.

Plus Leia had to concede that this was just too bizarre for it to be this man’s fault. She heaved a loud sigh, she maintained her more rigid posture, but her accusatory manner was gone - untroubled by the swearing it seemed; she looked over at him.

“I’m Leia- I’ve seen you around here before.” Not a lot, but enough to know he was a newer resident, but not new, new. “Confusing. Ridiculous things happen here sometimes, without explanation.” He likely knew, already, she imagined? She couldn't remember the last time something like this happened. “This must be one of those things.”

"Like going through the doors," he said. This was nothing like going through the doors, except that it was entirely unpredictable. He'd never imagined something like this, what even was this, would happen.

It was completely unreasonable. To be tethered, more or less, to another person. That's what it came down to, when they couldn't get but a few feet from each other without agonising pain.

"Hopper," he added, holding out his hand as a formality. "It's Chief Hopper back home, but you can call me Hop." Because there was no reason to demand full names and titles right now.

"Yes. Like that." There was practically a list of things that made no sense here, including how and why they were here at all.

Leia was almost amused by the offer of formality, but she recognised why he did so. "Princess Leia Organa, if we're going for titles." But that was said more to make light of the situation, than demand reverence, she had no desire for that, especially given their current state, there was nothing regal about this. "But- Leia is fine." She reiterated, with a faint smile before moving to take his hand and shake it, still not really knowing where to put herself, just certain to avoid the painful, invisible recoil.

"These things never last." She muttered with a bitterness in her tone, as if to make a point it was a relief, but only a grudging one at that. She wasn't about to give this place any slack for this nonsense, none. "We've had illnesses- been turned into children- ..there's no telling how long we'll be stuck like this.. so we're going to have to work something out." How was she supposed to dress, shower?

The doors were really the only thing Hopper had experienced, and that was really no more weird than a portal to The Upside Down opening in Hawkins. He'd had his share of strange things happen, he really shouldn't be freaked out by something like this.

He was really trying not to freak out because freaking out wouldn't do either of them any good.

"I heard about the kid thing. That happened right before I found myself in this place." He'd just focus on something else. "I didn't enjoy childhood the first time around, I can't imagine going through it twice." He had no desire to relive childhood, or his teen years, or even his twenties.

He had a certain level of peace in his life as it was. Or he would, if he were home with Eleven. But he wasn't. He was tethered to a virtual stranger. "I guess we should work out some details, since this is a thing we kind of have to deal with."

“Oh- it wasn’t so bad.” But Leia’s childhood, though filled with responsibility and duties, had been a blessed one. She’d enjoyed the sense of freedom too whilst she was here, and rebellion. “But I’m sure it’d be a little different for everyone. Mostly it was eating a lot of sugar, or snacks and causing trouble for anyone who’d remained their normal age.”

Leia sighed, agitated enough that she wanted to pace the room, but she was highly cautious of moving too far from him. She’d have to settle for vague annoyance instead, staying where she was. “Right-” Leia huffed, brows creasing as she thought. “I guess for a start we figure out exactly how far apart we can get- so ..perhaps, we can see how much we can utilize doors.” For space, for as much privacy as they could possibly get, that sort of thing.

Also, first things first, because she wanted to keep on moving, trying to make her moodiness more assertive. “Do you want to get- properly dressed?” She prompted, as if it wasn’t really a question, not having paid much attention, because she really didn’t want to, and she also intended to drag him over to her home, so she could do the same.

"Good plan." Hopper really hoped she didn't have an issue with cigarette smoke and alcohol, because he needed both. The sooner he could get them in his system, the better. And maybe a couple donuts too.

"Let's get dressed." He was wearing boxers and a T-shirt. At least he didn't sleep in the nude. "Obviously, I'll go first. Then we'll go to your place, I guess." Since it didn't seem like she could just leave on her own. He had to go with her.

"Seems like a good time to test the door theory. See if you can go to the other side, and close it?" he suggested. he was pretty sure that's what she was going for. He didn't particularly need the privacy to get dressed, but she might.

“That’s the idea-” Leia voiced, feeling somewhat annoyed by how casual Hopper seemed to be about all this? Wasn’t it ridiculous. But she supposed at least they’d reached a state in which there were some solution on the horizon. With any hope, there was anyway.

She was going to encourage him to go find whatever he wanted to wear first? But, this was fine too, really she supposed she’d rather find out sooner than later that this wasn’t going to work, and that they were going to have to find some other solution to finding privacy. Leia didn’t really care what his prerogative was, but as far as she was concerned, the ability to close a door between them? If nothing else, it might just be a saving grace.

Leia moved toward the bedroom door, still keeping a wary eye on the fact she was being followed, because - no one wanted that painful shock of being pulled back together. Once she walked out the door and yanked it shut, it closed without trouble, and she took a moment to sigh a breath of relief, before opening it again, and peering in. “Well, that’s something, right?” Almost a reason to be slightly more positive. “So what’d you need?” She prompted, clearly trying to hurry him toward whatever clothing he wanted to collect first.
