"That's probably a good thing," Tony agreed, he wasn't sure he wanted there to be anyone in the world who knew every single one of his secrets, at least not in the same way he knew them. He told Jan most everything, he'd tell his Steve most things too if he thought he wanted to know, but he was pretty sure that was a line they shouldn't cross - at least not yet.
It was complicated, in a way he didn't quite know what to do with. Especially now that he was here and there was this version of Steve who was seeming to always run around with his clothes off, and it'd be one thing if it was just them but it was something else with old Tony here too. And really it wouldn't ever be anything, he just liked to look, you know from a distance, without Steve catching him doing it, without Old Tony walking up on him while he was doing it. He could appreciate a view, that was normal.... right?
And then Steve asked but didn't really ask about him and Steve and Tony could literally feel himself going red. "What? Steve? No! No, no, no - that's ... no. I mean, he - we..." He didn't even know what there was to say, because they weren't anything to one another, not really, not beyond friends who poked and prodded at one another. "I mean, we're just friends. He's... a good guy," He finished rather lamely, looking rather helplessly at Steve and wishing that for once the ground might actually open up and swallow him whole.
