"The Chitauri?" She knew of them, though she hadn't seen them before. There were legends about a former titan going mad and attacking worlds. Carol had been so busy fighting the Kree that she hadn't had time to investigate too closely, but now she realized that she should have.
Carol sighed and stared off into the distance, away from Steve. She was thinking before she looked back at him to ask, "What did you guys call yourselves again? Avengers? Was that his idea?"
Because if it was, Carol felt responsible for all of this. If Fury had put this team together because she left, then failed to call her when something as big as this Thanos came to Earth, why give him the damned pager in the first place? She would have been back in an instant had she known of alien threats to her homeworld. If she saw Fury again, she'd definitely be chewing him out.
In Carol's mind, she would see him again. She didn't think she could deal with the thought that he and so many others were killed because she wasn't there to act. No. She'd make this right.
"....I knew Fury before he even knew there were aliens in the universe, let alone ones that could threaten Earth. Back when I was with Starforce." That was another life entirely. She sighed. "He didn't seem too worried when I left, but I'm starting to wonder about that. My callsign when I was a pilot in the Airforce was Avenger. It seems too strange to be a coincidence."
