When you grew up in a place like this there was a vibe about you, even if it wasn't this town you could tell country people. This wasn't country people. The stranger smelled good, spicy and expensive, subtle in all the right ways and Steve liked it. Not that he was sniffing him, it just caught his nose along with the pine from the woods beside them.
"Yeah just to the store to pick up a few things," Steve said with a nod. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the B and B is closed," he said. Obviously it really wasn't this guys day, there wouldn't be anywhere for him to stay for miles and miles.
But town would be the best place for him regardless and Steve started back toward the car as she snow fell a little heavier on them both. Dodger was already back at the door when he pulled it open and jumped right into the back, giving up his usual position riding shotgun without needing to be asked.
