He understood people had lives and families they were without, Peter's Aunt wasn't there, neither was Gwen's dad and sometimes when he thought about it he felt guilty for not trying harder to get them back where perhaps they belonged. Because part of him just wanted them to belong there, where Steve had found more happiness than he had ever imagined. But there was plenty of things he could slowly think himself crazy with, so that wasn't his constant worry.
Tony spun with the chair and Steve smiled down at him, instantly drawn into those beautiful dark eyes. "I do love you, but easy has always been your middle name," Steve said as he collected Tony right out of his chair and threw him over one shoulder. "Enough, we're going home," he said cheerfully and carried him all the way there.
