Steve enjoyed the quaintness. Things here were far more his speed, because he'd done fast paced and on the run, he'd slept standing up and he'd earned a reprieve. Here he had Tony and their little family, his best friend, there wasn't anything left to ask for. Except to hope that they could stay. It helped that Tony didn't seem unhappy either, wherever he was so was his work and it was nice to see the other man content in the life he had.
There were parts to this that Steve was still adjusting to, it was in his nature to handle things alone. To keep a steady hand and a blank face and just get on with it. Shifting gears and learning to bring someone else into the loop was a still a work in progress. But there was progress.
"I might even love you," Steve said with a flick of a smile in the corner of his mouth as he leaned down to place a kiss against the back of his neck.
