He huffed softly and shrugged right along with Richie, "Yeah well we've known that since the day we met." He reminded Richie, even as a kid he'd been good at playing at being ridiculous when confronted with something a little bit too real or serious. So it was hardly a surprise to find that it was still true now. Just like it wasn't a surprise that he'd shown up there that night without remembering any of it, only to have it come rushing up at him all of a sudden, leaving him feeling stupid for having forgotten any of it in the first place.
They all had to have had a moment like that, that insane vertigo feeling of the world tipping on it's head with the realization that something so real and horrible had been taken from them all. Leaving them worse off for it. And then to remember and realize they were right back in the place where it happened? If Stan hadn't actually done what he had before that night, that certainly would have been enough to push him toward that.
Stan shrugged, "I don't know about shitty." He told him, as he crouched down so he could lay a hand on Richie's shoulder, if Rich was gonna be on the floor he could at least keep him from craning his neck. "It happened for you, I mean if you went back there, it would still be real, of course it's still real for you here." It didn't matter that both he and Eddie were there now, they weren't where they were supposed to be, and they never would be even if this place disappeared. Richie would end up alone once more and Stan hated that idea floating out there over them. As if they hadn't lived, or not lived, through enough shit to have that to deal with now too?
"I'm sorry, Richie." He said it gently, lifting his hand to curl his fingers against one side of Richie's neck. "I'm sorry I did what I did. I know -" He started lifting his other hand to stop Richie from trying to tell him that no one blamed him, because maybe it was true, but his death was still a weight that Richie was carrying, and Stan was sorry for that. "I wish I'd seen another way to deal with all of it, I wish it had all gone differently. But I'm sorry I did that, and I'm sorry I hurt you." Because whether or not he'd done it to keep them safe Stan knew he'd hurt them all by doing what he had.
