Steve wasn't about to keep it for himself, he had more than his fair share in the shield. Of course he'd have given that up for the good of the town if it had come to it, but this piece he could share around. Both Tony's were always working away, helping things progress and he wanted to share it between them. Two heads were better than one after all. "Of course, I'm sure you'll have more use for it than me."
He didn't know when would be the right time to ask, but he knew he was going to so he wanted to have a ring on hand for when the time was upon them. Otherwise he wouldn't have anything to give him and that just didn't sit right. "Yeah," Steve said as he rubbed the back of his neck. Oh was right.
At least he thought he'd like it, that lifted some of the anxiety from him. Because gosh he wanted him to. It wasn't too showy, but it was unique and Steve had put a lot of thought into it. He wanted it to be something Tony loved, that felt like it was only for him. "You're the man for the job," Steve said certainly. "I hoped maybe if it fit you it might fit him and we could go off your finger size, adjust later if we need to," Steve said.
"He might not want to, you know, but I still want to give him something special," he said with a shrug. Because he might say no and he wasn't about to let that be the end of them. They certainly didn't have to be married to be happy, it was just that Steve had never thought he'd get the chance to marry the person he loved and he wanted to take advantage of it. To call Tony his husband, to feel a little more secure about the idea of what might happen if they ended up back home.
