WHO: America Chavez and Carol Danvers
WHAT: Not quite the Ultimates
WHERE: Flying over town, and then probably the ground
WHEN: Today.

Things being what they were, America was starting to give up hope of getting out of this place, at least getting out in any way that was to do with her. And that was a feeling she didn't love, not being at the center of a solution was not a place that America wanted to be in. And it left her feeling restless in a way that she didn't know what to do with. She hadn't gone back to the doorway yet, she probably should so she could continue to test and see if the same problems with her portals persisted even in the different places they could end up.

She wanted to get out of here, to get out of this place and she couldn't. Just walking into the forest didn't seem to get her anywhere finding herself coming out on the other side of town. So she'd gone out again, not to start yelling at the air or anything like that - not again at least.

Instead she walked to the center of town and then pushed up off the ground, letting herself rise higher and higher toward the sky wondering if she'd hit something if she went high enough or if she'd.... what? Find herself pushed back down again. It couldn't hurt to try, she'd tried everything else she could think of, at least so far she'd see how this went.

Fair enough. Carol shook her head as America joked about her age. How old was she? Huh. She considered how to answer. "Technically, I'm 50. Biologically? I think I stopped aging when I was first taken by the Kree....so 29."

Complicated for sure. From what she understood, she should still be aging but at a slower rate than a full-human. "Hard to tell, really.

Not to mention hard to think about. All of Carol's friends would be so much older than her by now. Maria.... Carol's expression grew a little bit sadder. "My Goddaughter would look older than I am. That's hard to imagine"

America raised an eyebrow when Carol told her she was technically 50, she supposed it shouldn't surprise her, maybe she looked a little different to the Carol she knew, but there were some parts of her that were the same. "That's weird." She said finally, not a bad weird, just weird. But what about this wasn't?

"Guess that's how it goes sometimes." She agreed, some things were just hard to figure out, they were complicated and weird and they ended up not quite how you imagined they would. But that was just life as far as America knew.

Now a goddaughter, that was a surprise. "You have a goddaughter?" She asked, okay maybe she knew Carol more as a team member than as a friend because this was new information.

Carol smiled and shrugged. "How old was the Carol you knew? Or how old do you think she was?" Carol was curious, cocking her head to the side and trying to guess herself. "Do you know when she served in the military?" That could say a lot, too.

"I was born 1960. The crash happened in '89. So...that's why I'm a little bit behind in Earth culture. The last time I was here- well, there was 1995."

The question about Maria brought a sad smile to her face, but she nodded. She was clearly proud. "Yeah. Monica Rambeau. She was my...best friend's little girl." Carol wasn't sure how to explain that relationship to anyone here yet. That was something she wanted to keep personal.

"She was about 12 the last time I saw her, and still causing trouble wherever she went. She'd probably be about 35 or 36 now."

"I mean I guess she'd probably be around the same age." America said after a moment and shrugged. "I'm not sure of the exact years she served, we haven't sat down and talked a lot about our past." She admitted, and now that she was realizing that it felt a little weird - sure she and Carol worked well together, but they weren't like swapping war stories together either. Maybe that was something she should work on when she got back, if she got back. You know if the thing with Kate didn't end up panning out, the Avengers never seemed to mind having her around.... most of the time. Whatever she'd take it as it came.

America saw both the sadness and the pride on Carol's face when she talked about her goddaughter. "Wow," That was kind of heavy, America didn't know what she'd do with something like that if she was in Carol's place. She tried to imagine herself in a similar situation with Kate - but well she couldn't imagine a world that she left Kate behind. Things had to be serious for Carol to leave, and to be gone for so long, it worried her - what Carol had left behind what she'd return to.

"You'll have to go and find her when you get back." She decided finally, because of course she should. And of course they were getting back and of course Carol would be able to find her friend and her daughter.

Carol was getting more and more curious about this other version of her, but she kept quiet for now and realized she probably wouldn't be so candid with someone she served closely with, either. Not at first. She'd held a lot in over the years, and it was nice just being around other humans. Even if America was not that, she seemed to understand Earth culture. "You should ask her when you get back. Freak her out and tell her you know about the snowman." Carol wasn't sure that happened to the other her, but she figured if it did it would be funny.

"I will." Carol let out a breath, staring up at the sky, squinting a little bit against the light "I'll even let Monica kick my ass for being gone so long." She smirked and turned her eyes back on America. "The sooner we get out of here, the better. Right?"

"The snowman?" America asked a grin on her face, imagining all sorts of things that could mean, delighting in the idea that when she did finally make it home she'd be able to have these same sorts of conversations with the Carol she'd left behind, where they got to know one another more, where she told her about another version of herself that she'd met. That sounded like the sort of thing she'd be happy to get home and do.

She laughed when Carol said she'd let Monica kick her ass, "You sure your friend wouldn't want to do that for her? Or are you giving them both a free pass?" She wondered. If her friend was Carol's age she wouldn't be too old for that sort of thing if she really wanted, and if she was friends with Carol - well America had a feeling she probably would go in for that sort of thing no matter her age.

"Yes, I don't want to spend any longer here than I absolutely have to."

"Just say it and make her tell you the rest." Carol sort of hated herself for setting her other up like that. Then again, she wouldn't have to answer those questions, would she?

"They could both get a free pass for sure." It would be worth it to see them again. Carol was definitely missing out on a lot of things back home. She had often tried to shove the thoughts aside and concentrate on the mission. Only one mission blurred into another and then another. There were so many planets and so many tyrants. The Kree's influence was vast. It took time. Lots of time.

"I'm going to agree with you on that." She turned and started walking, then turned to America. "Which way is the coffee shop again?" She really should have known this by now.
