Even the air felt scorched and a little hot after John's amped up attack and Peter, in other situations, might have admitted that he was impressed. Out here right now though? In the dark, after being hounded by some man or creature that he'd never seen or heard of before? He wasn't really feeling any kind of positive emotion -- he felt a little like the air was still rushing around his ears, but it was probably just the blood from his too-fast beating heart.
"Perhaps," he repeated, a little blankly, and then took the hand on offer to hoist himself back up to standing. "You probably--" He shut his mouth right then and there, because even in the dark the blank white of the monster's face was visible directly behind John and Peter did the only thing he could really think of -- which was yank the other man forward and then behind him with the momentum he'd been building just by standing. It sent them both tumbling back over, but that felt preferable to that thing being basically on top of the both of them.
