The night before had been special, no one had ever really wanted her like Steve did. He didn't want to make her fight unless she had to, and he liked dancing with her, and he was just so nice it made her heart ache to think about it sometimes. So when he asked her if she wanted to go with him? Of course she'd said yes, and when she'd fallen asleep beside him she'd thought maybe they could hang on to this life and make it something really special.
Waking up of course was the reminder that things like that didn't last. Steve's movement beside her pulled her into wakefulness and she opened her eyes to look at him sitting there in bed with her.
"Morning," She said softly, still stretched out in the bed beside him, letting the memories of the last week come back to her, dancing with Steve, the party, and making friends with some of the others who had been kids too. It was her first taste of how strange this place could be and she thought maybe of everything that could have happened she was pleased that it had been this.
"You really have always been that earnest, haven't you?" She asked him with a small smile, it had charmed her even as a child and she'd admired it in him as an adult. It was something that had been foreign to her for a long time. But over the years that she'd known Steve it became part of the fabric of them.
