12th Snapely Holidays Entry - Thinking Makes It So (Severus/Regulus)
green xmas bear
Fic for: [info]nimrod9
Title: Thinking Makes It So
Author:
[info]elfflame

Pairing Severus/Regulus
Rating Hard R
Warnings None, really. A bit of M/M sex, if that counts.
Summary Severus never expected to find someone he knew when he started his new life working in a Muggle university.
Disclaimer The world of HP and its characters belongs to Rowling. The author of this fic has borrowed them for the purposes of storytelling. No profit was or will be made.
Word count 10,251
Author Notes Written for [info]nimrod_9, who had a lot of interesting ideas. I went with Severus/Regulus, and both "A holiday get-together" and "Happily ever after isn't always easy." I hope you enjoy, hon. :) Huge thank yous to both my betas, C and K. The title comes, of course, from Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Oh, fabulous. Slytherins don't die, they just go to Wales.
Though on that...
"So why even stay in England? Surely there are other places you might have felt more at home?"
*cough* England and Wales are two different countries. You want 'Britain' here. I only point it out because Welsh people get upset when you call them English. *wink*
But oh, the happy fluffy. Huzzah!

*headdesk* I felt so stupid about this after you pointed it out. Good thing my grandmother doesn't read my stuff...

I'm glad you enjoyed it otherwise, though.

Erm...
is there any way of reading this fic without the holly background?

It's just that I'd really really love to read this pairing, but I can't get beyond the second paragraph, because the visuals are too distractingly uncomfortable for me.

Sorry to be such a pain.

Suggestion: select the entire story and cut and paste it into Word, Works, Word Perfect, Word Pad, Note Tab or whatever writing software is loaded on your PC and read it there. You can adjust it there to whatever font/color is your preference. You can also save it from there to your PC afterward if you really enjoyed it and wish to re-read it.

I love the slow and determined way Severus pursues Regulus, and the strength that he displays by just getting on with his life. It would be much easier for Severus to leave than just about anyone else, and you really did a great job of contrasting both Severus and Regulus' personalities.

Really nice story-Regulus being gone so long from the wizarding world and having to learn everything, Severus making contact with someone that was little more than a stranger but now is the one person that understands. Realistic ups and downs, especially considering how difficult Severus can be. Sweet ending. Great job.

I like Regulus's mellowing into the Muggle world and the measured build of their friendship.

But only if this wasn't Regulus trying to replace something he'd lost. He'd been second or less too many times. He couldn't afford to be less this time.

Oh! Severus. Yes, yes. *hugs him*

(but ack! whoa... the next two long, long paragraphs after that need some breaks in them..)

:D Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Sorry about the formatting there. There actually were line-breaks, so I'm not sure what happened...

It looks okay now. I'm no longer sure quite sure what I was remarking on.

It does look like it might have been a coding error. I saw it too, so you weren't mad. :)

Back again! I loved this! The way you fleshed Regulus out, individual unto himself was amazing! And I loved their slow courtship dance!! Thank you again, so much!!

:D It makes me so happy you enjoyed it that much, hon. I adore Regulus, and who better for "dead" Severus to run into than another long-dead Slytherin, right?

I am glad it was Regulus he found - an old friend restored when he least expected it. It is death-eater pairings for Severus that make most sense to me and I am glad to see it here. Regulus' initial oil-and-water reaction to Severus' appearance was very realistic and the overcoming of that was a pleasure to read.

I'm very fond of Regulus pairings, and while it's not my number one pairing, I agree with you. Severus works best with Slytherins, generally, though I do have an exception or two to that rule. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it.
