Oh! I love the ending. So clever, saying The End and then... Perhaps not. And using Dumbledore's own words to follow them onward!
But I also love the ending because OMG, the way Albus seduced Severus and then cut it off abruptly when Harry Potter arrived is so cold! So very Dumbledore. And it reinforces every bit of Severus's old distrust. *wah* That's twice Dumbledore's abandoned Severus... in circumstances that make it clear that others count, while Snape's only a tool. Awwww... *sniffles*
But then, you give them a chance to get back together - forever. :D Even if they "go through eternity bickering like a pair of Goblins fighting over the last account book in existence," as McGonagall says. That metaphor is total win! *adoration*
I love, love Minerva in this entire thing - she's really as wary as Severus himself, but that's probably because she's seen how Albus operates!
This works so well as background to the AK! Minerva's awareness of this history strengthens my own certainty that she knew far more all along about Snape being Dumbledore's man (or boy, heh) than she revealed to the Order, and would never have truly regarded Snape as a traitor in HBP or DH - but simply, like him, played a role to protect Snape and help him carry out Dumbledore's devious plans.
You even hint that perhaps Minerva, too, was once beguiled by Dumbledore. Small wonder that she promises - or threatens, lol - to one day join the two of them, instead of merely watching, hee! This fic is a wonderful mix of humor, personalities, and angst, which makes it very realistic. I'm just so glad that at the end, Severus can be happy, or at least get plenty of what he wants... arguments, snark, sex, and loads of attention from
