Oh, I like this . . . so very much . . . the unsentimental romance (Severus/Poppy is a first for me, but it does make sense), the slow recovery, the still raw wound left by Severus's mother's depression and death and the surprise of a human, but decent Tobias who actually cares about his son. Very well written and the open ending is just perfect for this story. Excellent job, Mystery Author!!

With Snapely Holidays, I often include fairly random characters (relatively speaking) in my sign-ups, trusting that whoever gets my assignment will love Snape so much (i.e., as much as I do) that they'll be able to find the perfect partner for him, even if it's a completely surprising partner (in other words, somebody I hadn't really considered).

Once again, my fiendishly clever plan was a success! This is a lovely story, with just enough hurt/comfort to satisfy my wish to see Snape taken care of, but without the kind of cloying sentimentality that Snape wouldn't appreciate and Poppy wouldn't be comfortable giving. Your Poppy is exactly as I imagine her: loving, caring, but absolutely her own person, and willing to take Snape as he is (without taking any crap from him *g*)

Tobias, too, is perfect. A product of his place and time, who seems to have loved his son and his wife, but had no idea what to do do with that love (especially when it came to a wife who was clearly suffering so badly from depression *hugs Eileen*). And this line I love: "Some people are horrible at facing helplessness," says Poppy. "Their only way to meet it is with anger." Poppy could just as easily have been talking about Severus, which I'm sure was intentional.

	I think I have never seen this pairing ever! How can that be? And it's so good, in your hands! If anyone ever needed a healer, it's SS. I'm glad you took it on, and i'm also glad that you had Poppy acknowledge that she is older than Severus, and why not? (As an older lady who would also like a crack at him...) 	I had never really thought of Severus/Poppy and yet it seems so logical after reading this. They fit together so well here. I loved how much she obviously cares for him but doesn't dweel in the romanticism of it which I think he would want. I also loved that Tobias finally wanted to resolve their issues. 	This is lovely. I love your warm, intelligent Poppy and your snarky but fragile Snape, and they work so well together. Tobias is great, too. Very, very nice. This Pomfrey is easy to picture as a pairing for Snape - a woman who cares about him and therefore not willing to put up with his guff, and perceptive enough to see how Tobias for who he is. And I really like the Tobias you gave us. It's great to see a realistic picture of a man who cares very much about his family, but does not know how to show it and is well aware he is powerless to defend either of them.

Well done!

Beautiful job. I love the quiet solidity of the style and of Poppy's and Severus's relationship. The opening establishes everything so well, from the "air shivering with cold" to Poppy's vow that someday Severus will fetch the tea to all the many possible meanings of "Severus is still not well." Tobias is an excellent creation, complex and nuanced. And the ending is provides a perfect closure, with its father/son mirroring and its sense of Poppy's strength.

	Brilliant. I love the way you saved Sev, gave a beautifully-crafted backstory incorporating the basics of canon, and resolved the questions of his past and his parents. Such a man-child he can be, petulant and stubborn, the casual cruelty, and then there's the insecurity beneath it all. She's too old for him; or rather, he's too young for her. And yet he's so old, too. Too old.

That is just an absolutely wonderful, concise description of Snape. You've summed up so much right there. And it's fabulous that Poppy sees and understands it. Her easy acceptance of his sniping and irascibility is lovely, as is the companionship and comfort and routines they've developed. She's the perfect person to deal with him as well as mediate things between Severus and Tobias. Nice progression of things here; not at all rushed, but perfectly paced.
