Rules & the Sign-up form
THIS IS NOT THE SIGN-UP POST.
But please do read this if you're thinking of taking part since we've got a new requirement this year. :)
First some points:
- We are expecting more writers than artists, so we cannot guarantee a choice between fic or art.
- No, you do not have to receive the same characters you ask for or vice versa. This will be repeated in the form for those who don't read the rules and just skip to the form. :)
- There are more slash than het or gen authors and artists as a rule, so please try and remain as flexible as possible on your sign up, in either what you can write or what you wish to receive. Having the same handful of people writing for each other every year would get quite dull and depressing for all involved and is not in keeping with the spirit of this exchange.
- Fics written for drop-outs will, to the best of our ability, be re-assigned to a pinch-hitter. Pinch-hitters, we cannot guarantee what you may receive, but we *do* try our best to be sure everyone gets a bit of Snape for the holidays. :)
Now...
the Snapely Holiday Rules
1. You must be 18 or over to participate. No exceptions. Yes, the exchange is open to gen, but unless there is a huge pool of participants to choose from it is much too difficult to pair up exchange participants if there are underage authors or artists.
2. Het, slash and gen are allowed in this fest. If you do not write or wish to receive het or slash or gen, just indicate it on the sign-up form, but for each category you disallow, you must add another character to the minimum required--no exceptions-- to help both your recipient and your hard-working moddies.
3. All work should contain Snape in some way. It can be told from another perspective, but it must highlight Severus Snape.
4. If you are writing, your story must be a minimum of 1,500 words. The sole exceptions are shorter stories submitted WITH art.
5. We ask that your story be beta-read or at the very least SPAG (Spelling Punctuation And Grammar) proofed. Brit-picking is a thoughtful element. Art should be vetted by at least one other person with the recipient's request in mind.
6. If you sign up, and there is a problem with your assignment, we want to hear about it right away, not on your deadline date. If you prefer not to write for a specific person because they are your beta or some similar situation, that is fine, just let us know.
7. All authors and artists -- please follow your recipient's request. While you do not have to include every single element they request, please try to honour the request to the best of your ability. These are the most important considerations:
a) Is at least one of their Snape pairings or requested characters/scenarios in your entry?
b) Is at least one element they requested present?
c) Have their squicks been avoided?
The answer to all these should be YES. Participants, give your beta, proofer or picker the link to your recipients request so they can also assure that the answer to a, b & c is YES. This is one case where two (or more) eyes is better than one.
NOTE: Once, despite the best intentions of one participant, an entry where the answer to "c" was "no" got past two betas and four readers, including the moddies. Which just goes to show how even being as careful as possible does not guarantee errors will not happen. So do have someone else check your work - it's not much to ask.
8. If you, at any time, need to back out of the exchange, please let us know as soon as possible, so that we may get a pinch-hitter.
9. Fics should be in text format or sent as a Word doc with all Smart Quotes turned off and any special html coding (italics, bold, underline, center, etc) included. We will be hosting the art, but please provide us with a thumbnail as well as the main art entry. All art and fic entries should have headers. The headers required will be provided with your assignment and will also be posted after assignments go out.
10. We can work with you if there are time-constraints or other issues but let us know ASAP. While we do try to contact late participants, we do not know people's schedule or RL issues and it is not our job to track people down or scour through their journals for clues to why they are suddenly incommunicado. It is your responsibility to let us know if you have a schedule conflict.
