Well, my brain hurts, so I can't even imagine how yours feels. :) But I really enjoyed this. As I said, it's remarkably creative. Given how much HP fic is now out there after all these years, the fact that you have created something entirely unique and without parallel is a stunning achievement. I hope readers will give this a real try and not be put off by the new names and setting in the first few paragraphs, but as this is from a fest at a time when readers are probably picking and choosing their stories quickly based on first glance, I fear that might be the case. Which is a shame, because those readers would be missing out.
I love the clever way that this is so AU, but with so many parallel events to canon. The troubled high school, the dedicated principal, the beleaguered teacher from the old neighbourhood who has come back to try to make a difference... it all fits remarkably well. My jaw also dropped in glee several times when I did realise the parallels - the Sectumsempra reenactment, for instance, was brilliant. And Farren's past with Seth here was fantastic and entirely plausible - especially after their exchange at the end ("you used to love when I fucked secrets out of you," a;klsjgalsk), and I think it worked even better in this AU than Snape/Fenrir would have in a canon-verse. The crooked cop as a werewolf analogy was really clever. (I admit Reyes was the one name I couldn't figure out for the longest time - ironically, heh - but when I did? Ohhhhh. Werewolves = cops! Love it.) And the Latino characters were really bold of you, but I think it works overall in paralleling HP bloodline issues. Again, really creative. And Billy's 'mauling' was amazing. a;lskgjd.
Also, goat!dog??? *DIES*
In sum, this is smarter than my brain can handle, almost, and I loved figuring it all out as it went along, and I think I fell a little bit in love with Seth and his street smarts. :) Thanks for such a unique and compelling story! I am both scared of your brain and a little bit in awe of it. :)
