“Daddy Sevvy, Daddy Harry, my date assures me he knows you two already,” Nora began with aplomb.
Severus and Harry looked up from their marking. “Hi, Nora,” they greeted. “Well, come in, both of you. If we do know him, it’ll be good to see him again, I’m sure,” Harry added.
Neville stood in the doorway. He had slimmed down quite a bit since his school days, and he was smiling slightly. Harry was happy to see that. The last time he had seen Neville, Neville had been sobbing (then again, the last time Harry had seen Neville was at Luna’s funeral). “Hello, Professor, Harry.”
“We’re both Professor now,” Harry laughed. “Hi, Neville. It’s good to see you again. I take it you’re Nora’s new boyfriend?”
Neville nodded sheepishly.
“Well, then, come in. We made dinner. Anything you can’t eat?”
Neville shook his head.
Harry led them to the table. “So, what have you been up to in the past few years?” he asked as he brought food to the table. Severus helped him silently.
Harry was slightly worried. It was unlike his husband not to say anything. Especially in such a situation. He and Neville had never really got along.
And if the look on Nora’s face was anything to go by, this was a serious relationship.
Oh no. Severus could be crafting a particularly nasty sentence right now, figuring out exactly what to say to do the maximum damage.
“I’m just gonna pop downstairs for some wine. Sev, mind helping me with this? Your tastes are more… refined… that mine. We’ll be back in a minute, Nora, Neville, so make yourselves comfortable meanwhile.”
Severus narrowed his eyes suspiciously but followed Harry into the basement.
“What are you planning?” both men demanded at the same time.
Harry laughed. “Me? Nothing. I wanted you alone for a moment.”
Severus arched an eyebrow. “Is it for the reason I hope?”
“Certainly not,” Harry answered with aplomb. “I’m not about to fuck you in the basement when our daughter and her boyfriend are waiting for us.”
“Then why did you want me alone, if not to fuck me?”
“Sev, you’re almost never this silent. I want your promise you won’t say anything nasty to Neville.”
“Why not?” Severus groused.
“Sev, if Nora likes him, it’s not our place to interfere. Remember? We agreed, long ago, that we wouldn’t interfere with her love life unless the person she was dating was dangerous and we felt we needed to save her. Neville’s not dangerous.”
“Harry, you were in the same potions class as him!”
Harry glared at him. “Severus! I’m serious. Forget not fucking you down here, I won’t fuck you at all tonight if you try to ruin this. If they’re happy, let them be.”
Severus caressed Harry’s cheek gently. “I promise, love. I won’t say anything nasty. Won’t even glare or sneer at him.”
They returned upstairs. Severus smiled slightly at Neville. “I’m happy you could come tonight,” he said with aplomb.
