Cliché Fest: FIC: Joyride
Title: Joyride
Author: [info]joanwilder
Rating: NC-17
Word count: Approx 21,000
Warning(s): None
Cliche: (highlight for spoilers) *Snape survives the war, but then disappears. Years later, Harry encounters him unexpectedly in a Muggle village.*
Summary: Whether spot-on or slightly off, timing, it seems, is everything.
A/N: Thank you, J., for the super beta skills! I'd find that money tree for you if I could, but for now you'll have to settle for an Entertainment Book… Thanks, modly people, for throwing a fest with such a great theme.

The Harry Potter universe is the property of J.K. Rowling and her book and film companies. I make no money from writing fanfiction.

So amazing

That was so amazingly detailed. It was easy to fall into each and every aspect of the story. I don't know how Snape could still be so Snape in every way you wrote him despite his changes but he was and to make him a carousel horse restorer was amazing. I loved Harry's vocation as well. This read true in so many ways. Thank you very much! Please consider a sequel. I would love to see the two of them together as themselves and to see Snape's reaction to the letter *smirk*. Really this was so delightful. I think it might be one of my most favorite ever. Thank you.

So beautiful, so beautiful!! I loved every word of this, but the scene of Harry spying Selwyn's sheer joy made me cry. This was a real treasure and one I'll be rereading.

I have a sappy, sappy grin on my face after reading this.

Also, I planned on reading this off and on throughout the day. A little cleaning, read some, watch a movie, read some, play with cat, read some.

But once Severus entered the picture I couldn't stop. I was so overjoyed when Harry's nightmare turned out to be a nightmare. Not only because I would hate for Severus to be so angry and geez, the misunderstanding, but also because it would have seemed OOC for this Snape.

For all that this is the cliche fest, I don't believe I've read a fic like this. I love that your Snape is more grown up now (from what it seemed in canon) and is at peace with himself. Also, restoring carousel horses must be in the top five of original professions for this fandom. But I loved the character and how different he remained.

I especially love that, though Harry refers to himself as Harry, Severus remains Selwyn, because he truly has changed no matter who he interacts with.

The lovely shot of hope at the end was just amazing. I truly enjoyed this, start to finish.

A realistic set-up, a blow to the head and...we get to the end to find out it wasn't all a dream after all! And that made the story all the better for me, the mix of Harry's every-day reality and Severus' new fantasy-like reality. I really appreciated the hopeful end without the need or the attempt to tidy everything up for the reader. A very engaging read and a joyful image that I won't soon forget.

What a fascinating Severus...so free of what the wizard world expects or sees of him...free to do what he wants to do. Harry kept me on the edge of my seat (spill it, man!) So much promise for the two of them at the end - I adore the hopefulness of it. A really wonderful story!

That was gorgeous. Great h/c (loved it when Severus healed him in his 'sleep'), wonderful interludes though the night, great conversations, great summer program. I loved every new scene. Getting to see such a reinvented Severus was almost embarrassing and painful, since he was so openly joyful and different from who he used to be. I loved watching both men as they repeatedly said 'yes' to opportunity, and felt Harry's indecision and pain (and guilt!) as he kept putting off doing the right thing. A wholly lovely fic.
Black stallions, FTW! I kept seeing Harry flying through the air on Buckbeak during Sev's solo ride. Pure joy.

I really enjoyed this. I read it slowly, taking time to savour every word. It's about time those two got their happy ending and this one was promising at the end :)

Oh my goodness.
LOVE this! It was, as others have said, amazingly detailed, and I LOVE, love, love your take on their very unique professions. Both Harry and Severus have finally found their passion and it shows in this gentle story. And the ending was perfect, full of hope for the future (although I will admit that I wanted to see Harry face Snape as himself).
Gorgeous writing!

There are so many things I could point out from the uncommon careers to the absolutely joyous finale but I think I loved most Harry's nightmare--so vivid and understandable from Harry's perspective--giving way to a much kinder reality, Harry's decision not to tell Severus, not to do anything to spoil that moment, and lastly Selwyn's letter back to Harry. Really lovely work. Well done.

I read this in my ebook. And then I re read this now ^^ How much I loved the horses scenes, both of them, maybe especially the one Severus did it, so happy... Thanks for that hope at the end! But now begin the story! ^^ I want to know Harry found at last "that" person *__*

Amazing writing! Perhaps I loved the most the part about going uphill - that was written so amazingly and powerfully. Severus was nice and kind and I loved that. Carousel horses??!! Never in a million years would I thought of that as Snape's new occupation. :D Also it was a nice idea about students integration with muggle world. The story had a lovely feel.
