Cliché Fest: FIC: The Interrupted Kiss: A Fairy Tale
Title: The Interrupted Kiss: A Fairy Tale
Author: [info]emynn
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 24,795
Content/Warning(s): (highlight for spoilers) *A brief kiss during a flashback between 17-year-old Harry and a not-17-year-old Severus. Other than that, nothing except for a plethora of clichés and what you would expect from the rating.*
Cliché: (highlight for spoilers) *Quite a few sprinkled throughout, but the main one is a Snarry retelling of a famous story, in this case, Cinderella.*
Summary: Once upon a time, Severus Snape shared a kiss with Harry Potter. Then Harry had disappeared after killing the Dark Lord, leaving Severus the reluctant darling of the Wizarding world. When Dumbledore insists on throwing a ball in Severus’s honour, Severus is convinced the world has gone completely mad. But when he comes across an ashy-faced young man whose half-answers about his identity haunt his every thought, Severus realizes that a ball might be the least of his worries.
A/N: AU after OotP–yup, Dumbledore is alive and kicking! A million thanks to D, who provided invaluable beta services and worked her magic on this. You’re the best!

Now this is MY kind of fairytale, mystery author! *fist bump* How I loved your wizarding world swooning over Severus instead of Harry for a change! (Where can I get a copy of this photograph???) Interferring!Albus FTW once again when he calls in the life debt! *giggles*

Harry in the cottage surrounded by animals gave me images of Snow White. Too fun! This was terrific from beginning to end and a home run to start the fest with! My overuse of exclamation points clearly shows my love of the story. :)

Thank you, bb! I am thrilled you liked it so much (and also that you magically managed to guess me so quickly, you superwoman...no idea how you managed to work that out). And thank you for being such a defender of this story when outside forces struck, haha. You're the best. *smooches*

Adorable!! And not one, but *two* hidden identities for Severus to chase after - double helpings of my favorite cliche! :D

The wands were a lovely concept, and integrated into the Cinderella story so seamlessly that you made it seem effortless. What a great story. :)

what a perfect use of a beloved cliche! You made it so easy to recognize early on how wonderfully the story would end, and just settle in to enjoy every word and scene, delight in all your creative original elements, and laugh with pleasure as you introduce and elaborate all the charming absurdities. And yes, I want a copy of that picture too! With "Love, from Severus Snape" on it!

I love, love love Harry as a wandmaker - why does that career suit him so well? I dunno! But it's perfect! Especially as a "glass slipper".

Also, Harry's menagerie is terrific!! It suits him, both in canon and in this story, and of course lays the groundwork perfectly but unobtrusively for his fairy Albus-mother's transformation of him for the ball. Similarly, Snape's musing on his potions, present and past, is such a good way to work in the history and set the mood, but then when they become a key element in the end - wow! Well done, O Author!

I'm enthralled and deeply admiring at how wonderfully you wove canon and AU and original elements into the familiar story. It was awesome!

Oh wow, thank you for such a lovely comment! I had a lot of fun playing with Severus as the reluctant celebrity...it's high time for him to get the love and attention he deserves! Haha. Thank you so so much, I'm just thrilled you enjoyed it so much!

Love it, love Harry's wands and menagerie and his vulnerability. Love Severus responding to him in whatever guise. Love Albus tracking Harry down. Love it.

Severus with Harry in his arms...your photo couldn't help but remind me of that famous Gone With the Wind image of Scarlett (As God as my witness I'll never be hungry again!!). What a great anchor to the story! A true fairy tale in every sense of the word and great reading for this first day of October. I will always have the image of Severus running buttery fingers through his hair to make it more oily on purpose. So many original touches in this old familiar tale. Great work!

Oooo, I love this! There are just so many layers--the fairy tale, Harry's personas, the wandmaking, the potions. I loved the conversations Harry had with Severus, trying to match the wand to the wizard to find his true love, Albus forever meddling--showing up like the fairy godmother was priceless and perfect. Wonderful happily ever after. Well done!

An utterly delightful take on an old favourite! I loved Dumbles as fairy godmother *snorfle* - shame Crabbe and Goyle couldn't be the ugly sisters *wink*.
Just right for a leisurely weekend read, thanks so much.

Let me first say that I will pay any amount necessary if someone will produce that picture you described. Great story, you had me giggling from the beginning and it was really sweet (plus the naked massage wasn't half bad :P). Now excuse me while I go re-read it (again). -Carry

I absolutely loved this both the first and second time I've read this. The new art brought me back here a second time. And the "Photo" that you mentioned in your story reminded me of some art I had actually seen before. The first time I read it I didn't know who had drawn it but I recently came across it again. This was done quite a while ago and had no relation to the story but I thought you might enjoy. Gwyllion is an amazing artist. What do you think? I just couldn't get it out of my head and had to pass it on. Hope you don't mind

Thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it even on a second read. (And [info]veridari's art is gorgeous, isn't it? Best surprise ever.)

And that's a beautiful piece of art! I had never seen it before. I love the way Severus is holding Harry. Thank you for sharing with me!
