Neither Shall Live
Awww, thanks so much for your heartfelt comments, ensnarryed! I know this one was a hard one for most people to read.
I tried hard to make their dialog and set up as believable as possible. I don't think things would have been easy on either of them after the war, and I didn't quite believe how JKR offed Harry's Horcrux in the books. I think that has to do with what Hermione said, that the vessel the Horcrux is in has to be damaged beyond even magical repair. Harry remained alive after the A.K., so I think that piece of Voldemort's soul would stick around as well. You're welcome for my writing the new ending.
In the original rough draft, I had some of Snape's thoughts and viewpoints along with a series of "Lily" lines beginning in the first scene with "Lily, your son is still a thorn in my side." moving toward caring in the middle with "Lily, your son is in pain and I don't know how to help him." to the final devastation at the end with "Lily, your son is dead." My beta reader very rightly said the shifting in POV was distracting and too sudden, and by taking it out it focused the piece directly on Harry's pain and despair. I had to throw out those other lines, but kept the final one and just altered it to be omniscient instead of Snape's POV.
I'm very pleased you liked this, even though it left you sobbing. :)
