Today, as most days, the first Snarry I think of when I want something atmospheric and moody to read is Acidburn and Sinick's "Commonplace Magic". I love non-magical AUs since the HP characters do well in any setting freed from the constraints of canon, but the older ex-professor living in a tenement by candlelight, and the chipper college student who serves him his pub lunch daily, are two people I love to see come together. I first read A&S's "The Price of Magic" which was chock full of death and angst and sadness and post-apocalyptic desperation. Then I read their AU gem set in the same world, with many of the same characters and settings. It's WONDERFUL. As with many of my favorite pairings, each man reflects an aspect of myself. In this case, Harry is me when I was a college student, and Snape is me now (more or less). http://www.walkingtheplank.org/archive/viewstory.php?sid=2108&warning=4 Go read it! It's perfect for a chilly, overcast day.
