Deathly Hallows Spoiler Policy
Do not post anything remotely like a spoiler on this group unless it is clearly marked as a spoiler and all spoiler information put behind the cut-tag.
ETA: To be extra safe, the mods have decided to ask members to use this heading and LJ cut for all entries that contain Spoilers:
SPOILERS FOR DH
( LJ-cutting everything, just to be safe. )
This includes the following in both community posts and comments on community posts:
• Spoilers.
• Suspected Spoilers.
• Stories based on spoilers or suspected spoilers.
• Art based on spoilers or suspected spoilers.
• Subject Lines based on spoilers or suspected spoilers.
• Icons based on spoilers or suspected spoilers.
• Moods based on spoilers or suspected spoilers.
• Cut-tags based on spoilers or suspected spoilers.
• Other creative pursuits based on spoilers or suspected spoilers.
Yes, your icon and mood can spoil someone, too. For example, if a friend were to make a post here with the subject line: "Book 7 spoilers" and put everything behind a cut-tag, but the mood is "disappointed" or "sad" or "depressed," you can infer quite a bit from those moods knowing that person and their preferences. The same inferences can be made from a Snape icon with a halo overhead or a Potter icon splattered with red blotches. In other words, we would ask that people use neutral icons during a set time before and after the release of the book, whether or not they've read it.
These are just some examples of the many ways you can accidentally spoil someone, so please, everyone, think carefully before even posting something remotely spoilerish. If you're not good with cut-tags check out IJ's FAQ here, and practice them in your own journal first. If you have questions or want a judgment call, please be patient and contact a maintainer. We will prioritize time-sensitive questions and needs, so you won't have to wait long to post. We will probably be spoiled for the book, so it's all right to get specific in private mails or chats.
Warnings for spoilers will be required for three months until the end of August.
If you break these rules: we're sorry, but you will get one warning, and if you do it again, you'll be blocked from posting. Obvious trolls will be banned. We can't think of a stronger way to get across that this is the last HP book, and everyone deserves a fair chance to read it in their own way.
99.99% of you are mature, intelligent and polite enough to have already decided to not post spoilers on your own. But there's always someone who misses the boat or wants attention or likes to ruin other people's good time, so we thought this needed to be said explicitly: "Spoilers? Don't Do It."
