I am reminded of the quote for differentiating between good and evil: Good trees bring forth good fruit. (Good propagates goodness.) Bad trees bring forth bad fruit. (Evil propagates evil.)
I particularly notice the juxtaposition of good/bad here; Bad is bad. But good is also bad if it is twisted into unrecognizability.
Also that the ones in power do not necessarily know what they are doing; they are just doing what they have come to power to do. (That's actually a scary concept, now that it is in front of my eyes as I am physically forced to look at it as I write this.).
Conclusion: Everything in moderation! (I believe it is Buddhism that uses this concept.).
