How do you picture Snape and Harry?
When I read Snarry fan fiction, the Snape and Harry I see in my mind are very similar to movie Snape and Harry, only in Alan Rickman's case, aged down, and in Daniel Radcliffe's case, aged up. One of the closest pieces of art work to resemble my mental Snarry is Tea? by Mathia. (Safe for work.)

I was wondering how other people see Snape and Harry ... some people like Adrien Brody as Snape, but I've not seen many other suggestions for Harry.

(If you're looking for artwork, the Art List at the [info]snarry_reader has quite a few links.)

I suppose I see Harry very close to the way Radcliffe looks, although slightly taller.

My Snape - apart from the voice (which is pure Rickman) - is very different from A.R.: shorter, bonier, younger, uglier, angrier, pervier. And I don't suppose I have an actor in mind for him (although there's a fry cook at a burger place in Brooklyn - bald and snarly and skinny with a huge yet sexy nose - who looks eerily like I imagine the Snape in "Home Fries Nazi" must look).

So...my Snape? More like this by Rex Luscus, which is an illustration for my Snape/Kingsley story (and very much NSFW!) or this by Lizard which is an illustration for my Snarry story "Going Postal" and which is safe-for-work.

Those Snapes resemble "book" Snape pretty well. I could certainly handle picture those Snape's in my mind.

Your image of Severus is pretty close to mine--young, angular, on the short side of average, maybe not "ugly" to a sympathetic eye but the nose is definitely dominant on an otherwise slight build--except that I see him as more shy (about intimacy, physical or otherwise) than "pervy." Of course, if what you mean by "pervy" is "unleashed usually-strongly-suppressed passion bursting out as soon as he sets it free upon finding a partner he dares to open to," well, then, hellyeah. :-D I also think the anger can give way once he feels safe and cared-about. The people with the strongest defenses usually have the softest hearts to defend.

And although Alan Rickman does a great job delivering the lines, I don't hear Alan Rickman's voice when I hear Severus in my mind. I always imagined Severus with a higher voice, tending towards nasal when it's got an edge, but being a "silky-smooth" soft tenor speaking voice when he's calm and in control.

And damn, thanks for sharing the pix. ;-)

Interesting question, because in Snarry I don't see AR & DR.
More like the above icon, or the artwork associated with lilyeyes' Breathe series.
The Voice, is total AR.

Yes, I think the voice has to stay. :D

The Snape in your icon is quite pretty, and younger than I imagine "my" Snape, and I quite like that Harry. It's interesting to see everyone's different ideas.

O I agree, inaccurate but I like him.

I think air-brushing was quite heavily involved in this icon (and it was from the first movie, if I remember correctly, so Alan was a bit younger than he is in the Half Blood Prince). ;D

Me too!

I must admit that my mental characters are fairly fuzzy, visually, and change depending on the fic I'm reading, but I had a piece of fan art made for me and I do love the interpretation of Harry and Snape.

The colours in that are lovely.

Snape's a little bit younger there than I imagine him, but he's not far off. It's a very nice picture.

Gad that is beautiful, and I think very accurate.
Looks like it could be from "Nocture", one of my favorite Snarrys.
Thanks for sharing.

hmm I guess I see Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, though with black hair
as for Snape, I always picture him as Maynard James Keenan of Tool (when he wears a black wig) He's too short for snape though, but he has the age and nose I envision. He also has the sexy voice, though AR is also wonderful. I think Alan goes a wonderful job as Snape, just he's too old. Makes me feel like a bit of a perv, er well a super perv when I'm slashing Alan and Dan in the movies...

My friends who haven't read the books think I'm messed up because they think that Snape is like 60 or something like Alan Rickman and poor innocent Harry is 14. I inform then that there is only a 20 year difference between them ^_^

I haven't heard of Maynard James Keenan, so I Googled him, and found this picture. Have you read Pir8fancier's Snape, the Home Fries Nazi? Maynard looks very much like the Snape in that.

Non-book Potter fans have no idea, really, do they?

*cries* the picture isn't working...
No I haven't read that fic, *bookmarks* but I shall now ^_^

I think it's Maynard's voice that works for me *shivers* and then I saw him in concert (4 times and going to see him tues and wed OMG *flails*) and the way he moves is very fluid and then I saw his nose and he became Snape for me =)

Pretty much the way you described - an aged-down Alan Rickman. But, in a complete moment of illogic, younger Snape (late school years, first war, prior to teaching) I see as Adrien Brody,

I just remembered - some people favour whatshisname, the singer from Nine Inch Nails, as Snape. It doesnt realy work for me - too American, too much a rock star, but I've seen him on a few icons.

It might have something to do with the fact that I read all the books that were released over and over again during the time period between when they were released and when the movies started coming out, but I have a picture of Harry in my head that's definitely nothing like DR. I can't picture him as real person even - he's more of an animated drawing. Snape, however, is a different story. He DOES look a lot like Alan Rickman when I picture him in my head, but a bit younger, a bit uglier, and a bit more severe looking. He also comes across almost as an animated drawing, but not as much as Harry does. And he's an exception, because I don't picture ANY of the HP book characters as their movie counterparts.

That's interesting ... and it's also interesting that Alan's the only actor you can accept as a similar Snape. I'm with you ... some of the movie actors don't resemble their book counterparts at all. (Thinks Fleur and Victor Krum, especially.)

Thinks Fleur and Victor Krum, especially. Not so much Fleur, for me, but Krum, oh YES! Nothing at all like the book description.
And there's Lupin's unfortunate facial hair.

I would have to say that if I wanted an actual person as my mental image of Severus it would have to be some of the earlier images of Trent Reznor of NIN. Like here My Harry is not as squeeky clean and wholesome as DanRad, instead he's closer to Liam Aiken from "Series of Unfortunate Events."

As for art. [info]ponderosa121's is spot on to my visual image of Snarry.

I like my Severus to gritty and rough around the edges with a fine covering of sentuality and Harry to be a scrawny, scrapping little thing. Kinda like an overactive puppy; all arms and legs and wont take no for an answer.

I also like The Devine Marques' Severus but I don't think s/he/they are online anymore.

Good image of Reznor there, and I love Ponderosa's Snape too.

Liam Aiken's an interesting choice; I haven't heard of him before.

Yes to this. I think the trio was over directed by Chris Columbus, and lost some of their spontaneity. The out-takes would be very interesting.

I have to say that I really haven't cared for any of the movies. I've been disappointed everytime I go. I can't make up my mind if it's bad screenwriting or bad directing or just the movie "image machine". I know the actors are much better than they are in these series of movies, I've seen them do better in other things.

Liam Aiken was "Klaus" in the Series of Unfortunate Events movie. He actually did a very good job as a tragic waif. Also his appearance, except for the hair, seems much closer to the book discription of Harry. Skrawny skinny, messy hair, scruffy appearance... just more like a real kid than a movie set, wholesome waif that Dan seems to be.

Another kid who might would have made a good Harry was the kid in Peter Pan, he looked like he'd have been a right little hellion.

I've first watched the first HP movie and I've fallen into this fandom because of the way Alan Rickman depicted Snape so Alan's definitely the way I picture the Professor. As for Harry I'm picturing him more mature and manly *g*. Tea? by Mathia comes quite close.

If I'm reading the books, I tend to picture Harry differently than if I'm reading fanfic. That'd probably irk fanfic writers to know.

I picture Snape as this guy I saw once. He was seriously like real Snape come to life, he was greasy, long thin haired, long thin pointed and hooked nose, kinda sallow and bent, and totally gross.
But I couldn't stop staring!
which was awkward, as I saw him at a strip club. It was my birthday, so we went to this gross strip club where the strippers are old and have weird physical quirks.
And the Snape guy was totally hitting on one of the old strippers.

Then he noticed me staring and I had to stop. I was so tempted to like, try to get to know him, but it wasn't him, it was the fictional character he looked like.
And he probably had a bunch of std's

And, um, Harry is always sort of impish in my mind.
