A/N: Thank you to the mods for the extension, and my beta for looking this over. Any lingering mistakes are my own. xo
Harry made his way through the Burrow, clutching his mug of hot chocolate tightly. The sounds of laughter and Celestia Warbeck's Christmas music filled his ears, bringing a smile to his face. There was nothing quite like spending the holidays at the Burrow. The entire family crammed into the one house to spend Christmas together.
And it was even more special since he had convinced Severus to come along with him.
Finding an open seat on the sofa, he sat down, staring into his mug. A few marshmallows floated around inside, looking incredibly appetizing. He took a sip, enjoying the smooth, warm taste of chocolate. Molly always made the best hot chocolate.
Looking around the Burrow, Harry smiled at all the happy couples and families there. Draco and Ginny were in the kitchen with Molly, while Ron and Hermione were cuddling the two Malfoy children, Scorpius and Lyra. Fred and George were in a lively discussion with their wives, Angelina and Verity. Arthur was bouncing little Victoire in his ap, while Fleur and Bill had stolen a moment outside together.
It felt good to be around everyone… To be with his adopted family.
The sofa sagged as another person took a seat. Turning, he grinned when he saw his husband. “Hi,” Harry greeted, reaching over and pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Are you having an okay time?”
Severus arched his brow before letting out a short breath. “Honestly, it’s been bearable. Molly and Arthur have been very welcoming.”
“I told you that they’d be happy to have you.”
“I said bearable,” he repeated, smirking slightly.
“Snape! You haven’t answered my owls about consulting for our potions!” George said, suddenly realising that Severus was on the sofa.
“There’s a reason for that,” he muttered, shaking his head. He wanted nothing to do with their marketed chaos.
“But imagine how far Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes could go with a professional potioneer!” George exclaimed, grinning eagerly, the look in his eyes almost manic.
“Yeah, Snape! Help a wizard out!” Fred chimed in. “Listen, let me just tell you about this draught I’ve been thinking of. It’ll only take two seconds of your time.”
“Harry, dear, could you help us set the table?” Molly called from the kitchen.
Severus grabbed Harry’s arm. “Please, for the love of Merlin, do not leave me with those two.”
“Harry!” Molly called out again.
“Coming, Molly!” Harry shouted. Looking at Severus, he gave him a sympathetic look. Kissing his cheek, he murmured, “Sorry,” before leaving Severus alone with Fred and George. The twins immediately sat on opposite sides of Severus, trapping in.
Harry made his way to the kitchen. “Where do you need me?”
“Put out the plates, dear,” she said, smiling at him as she gestured
“So what did the twins promise if you were able to get him alone?” Harry asked, knowing that her timing wasn’t coincidental.
Molly grinned sheepishly. “They promised that they wouldn’t pull any pranks this evening,” she admitted. “You know I couldn’t pass out a promise like that.”
Harry laughed. “I don’t blame you, but Severus might.” He made a face as he began to set the table.
Molly waved her hand. “His bark is worse than his bite.” She smiled.
“Uncle Harry!”
Turning, Harry barely had time to catch Lyra in his arms as she threw herself at him. “Hey, sweetheart, I hope you’re behaving.”
“Oh yes!” Lyra said, smiling up at him. “Scorpius is fresh, but I’m always good.” At almost-five, Lyra was a little troublemaker.
“Little Miss, you put a frog in my stocking this morning,” Molly said, pointing her spoon at Lyra.
“Sorry, Grandma Molly,” Lyra said sheepishly. She wiggled out of Harry’s grip and dashed into the living room.
“Well, that’s about everything,” Molly said, wiping her hands. “Harry, love, will you let everyone know that dinner is ready? Have them all take a seat.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” Harry said, grinning. He knew that after all this time, Molly loved to boss them around.
“Dinner’s ready,” he announced in the living room.
“Thank Merlin,” Severus said, practically jumping up from his spot on the sofa. Striding towards Harry, he glared at him half-heartedly before taking a seat.
Laughing, Harry took a seat next to him, gripping Severus’s hand tightly under the table.
“Thank you again for having us, Molly,” Harry said, donning his winter clothes.
“Come by more often,” Arthur insisted. “You too, Severus, you’re always welcome.”
“Thank you, Arthur, Molly,” Severus said with a nod of his head.
Molly pulled Severus in for a hug. “Don’t be such a stranger.”
Severus awkwardly hugged her back before stepping away. Harry took that as his cue. “Have a good night.”
Taking Severus’s hand, he gave it a squeeze as they began walking down the cart road outside the Burrow. Snow was falling and it made for a peaceful night.
“I love you,” Harry murmured.
"You'd better, after all the shite you've put me through."
Harry laughed. “Come on, it wasn’t that bad.”
“You didn’t have to sit and listen to the Weasley twins rant and rave over their ‘adult’ line,” Severus said with a roll of his eyes. “It was torture, Harry, pure torture.”
Harry let out a laugh. “Merlin, are you serious?” He shook his head in disbelief. “Merlin, if Molly knew-”
“And don’t think I didn’t know that Molly wormed you away from me at that moment by coincidence.” He chuckled. “I’ll get them back.”
“No maiming,” Harry teased.
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Severus promised. Turning, he pulled Harry into his arms and pressed a light kiss against his lips. “However, I can think of something that you can do right now to make tonight up to me. A little reward for surviving Christmas Day.”
“Ooo, what did you have in mind?” Harry asked huskily. He licked his lips in anticipation as he stared into Severus’ obsidian eyes.
“I have a few ideas that I think you’d be amenable to.”
“Then what are we waiting for?” Harry asked, grinning in excitement. Holding onto Severus, he turned on the spot, Apparating them home.
