Title: Bag and Baggage
Author: elmyraemilie
Other pairings/threesome: None
Rating: General
Word count: ~400
Theme chosen: Travel
Warning(s): None
Summary: Everyone has their own process for travel preparations.
A/N: Unbetaed. Written quite late, after little sleep the night before and two pints of very nice cider. (Maybe I should put that under "Warnings" instead.)
Two sets of robes: one for dress, one everyday. Three nice white shirts. Three pairs of black trousers. Two colored shirts. Seven pairs of pants. Seven pairs of socks. A jumper. Pyjamas. Shaving kit.
No, wait. Perhaps two jumpers. Some of their activities were in Muggle establishments; they could be air-conditioned to sub-freezing temperatures. And what about shoes? Will one pair of boots be sufficient, or would an extra pair be advisable? If the walked in wet grass, for example--
"Severus! Severus, are you packed yet?"
Harry's voice carried up the stairs. He'd dumped some clothing--tee shirts, probably, and blue jeans, even though Severus had asked him to bring nicer things--into a sports bag and taken it down to the front door. Did he even remember to pack swimming trunks? Swimming trunks!
Severus rummaged in the wardrobe drawer, looking for the sensible black swimming trunks he'd last worn the year the Potions Guild held their annual convention in Bristol. He might need a tee shirt too, to wear when not swimming.
"Severus! The portkey is set for eight twenty-five. It's quarter past! What are you doing up there?"
Taking the precisely folded items out of the bag, Severus put the trunks and the tee shirt underneath with the things that he didn't mind being a bit wrinkled. He was putting the trousers back when he heard steps on the stairs.
Harry stood in the doorway. "You aren't packed yet? It's a week in a hotel, not an expedition to Patagonia. Do you need a hand?"
"No, I do not 'need a hand,'" Severus snapped. "I need to be sure that I have made adequate provision for the trip." The shirts, crisp in their folding charms, were laid carefully atop the trousers.
Snape stood back to examine the bag. Two colored shirts, three white shirts, seven pairs of--
Harry pulled the suitcase lid down and snapped the clasps shut, then cast a locking charm on it. "If you've forgotten something, we'll be able to find it in Paris. Now, come on!"
Hefting the case, Snape trailed downstairs after Harry. He had tried to explain why he packed the way he did, but Harry had just kissed him and said, "Relax. It's about having a good time, okay?"
Okay, Snape thought, and watched as Harry picked up his own small bag.
"Ready?" asked Harry. "This is so exciting!"
The happiness on Harry's face was enough. Snape put aside his worries about sun cream and took his lover's hand. "All ready," he said, and the portkey pulled them away.
