Harry spoke not a word. Not on the way to the Apparation point, not waiting in the queue, not even when Severus cast an itching hex at a raucous group of Bulgaria supporters who tried to cut in front of them.
In Harry's hands was the twisted remnant of the "ENGLAND FOR THE CUP" banner he'd made the night before in their hotel room. There were streaks through the painted lions that decorated his cheeks, and one of them had its hindquarters smeared back into his hair. His hair, of course, was disastrous.
With a shepherding hand, Severus got them onto the Apparation point and side-alonged Harry back to the hotel room.
"Take a shower," he said, giving a gentle push toward the bathroom. Harry went. Snape closed the door behind him, and eventually the water came on. Casting a privacy charm to muffle the singing and shouting outside, Severus turned down the bed and lowered the lights. He removed his robes, trimmed in the England team's red and blue, and put on a pair of sleep pants.
As the water shut off in the shower, Severus Snape sat on the edge of the bed, put a hand over his mouth and allowed himself a moment of frustrated disappointment. Then he took a deep breath, wiped a hand over his cheeks, and prepared to console his partner. After all, it was only a game.
